Spiderman is Coming to Broadway

Spiderman is everybody's favorite superhero. He saves the world from supervillians while battling his own problems and humanities. The three blockbuster Hollywood movies were all the highest selling movies at the time they were released and continue to be favorites. So at a time when half of Broadway has temporarily closed due to the current economic situation, Spiderman is coming to Broadway!

The play will be called "Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark". It will open at Broadway's Hilton Theater on February 18, 2010. Previews begin on January 16th. It was written by Julie Taymor with Glen Berger and is directed by Julie Taymor. Taymor also directed the Broadway version of "The Lion King" and the Beatles inspired musical film "Across The Universe".

On board are Bono and The Edge from megastar rock band U2. Bono and Edge have written all music and lyrics for the play and are very excited about the opportunity to work in a medium outside their usual environment. Eight of the songs were previewed by a group of actors, including: "Bouncing Off the Walls", "Turn Off the Dark", "Bullying By Numbers", and the ballads "Rise Above" and "Boy Falls From the Sky".

Costumes are by Eiko Ishioka who also costumed for Coppola's 'Dracula' and the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony.

There are a number of reasons to anticipate this production. All people involved have a history of colorful, fantastic work in their respective avenues, and who doesn't need Spiderman about now?
