Over the years, Spider-Man has found himself in a variety challenges within video games. On various platforms he has battled his arch-rivals a countless number of times. Among other newer titles, most recently gamers experienced fighting as the web-slinger in games that followed the popular and successful film trilogy and franchise. Now, all new for the latest generation consoles, the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man returns with a whole new twist in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.

Anyone who follows the adventures of Spider-Man in comic book form is no stranger to the fact that Spider-Man exists within the Marvel Comics multiverse; in short, these are places where our favorite superheroes do battle in other times and/or worlds. In the latest Spider-Man action game, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, players will experience playing as the wall-climbing superhero across four distinct universes, as four different Spider-Men.

The story begins as the Tablet of Order and Chaos is shattered as a result of combat between Modern day Spider-Man and Mysterio. The shattered tablet in turn causes a rift in the four Marvel universes. Madame Web (Cassandra Webb) , a clairvoyant from the Spider-Man series of comics, calls upon the Spider-Men from the four universes to seek out the pieces of the tablet, in effort to return order and balance to the world.

In the game, players get to play each of the four Spider-Men while battling various foes. Fans of the web- slinger will be familiar taking control of each character; the modern and well known Amazing Spider-Man, a 1930's version known as Spider-Man Noir, the futuristic Spider-Man 2099, and the symbiotic mutant Spider-Man - the Ultimate Spider-Man. Interestingly, fans will appreciate that the different Spider-Men are all voiced by past Spider-Man animated series voice actors Neil Patrick Harris, Christopher Daniel Barnes, Dan Gilvezan, and Josh Keaton, and the game itself is narrated by Stan Lee. Additionally, players can expect to encounter popular foes such as, Doctor Octopus, Scorpion, Sandman, Vulture, Hobgoblin, and more who are also voiced by popular Spider-Man series alumni.

Gameplay is based on fighting enemies with a variety of attacks that are based on various controller and button combinations that are used to define each move. The variety of Spider-Men within the game also provide varying gameplay, with each character harnessing a unique set of abilities and moves. Action is non-stop, and controls are pleasant with only a slight learning curve to master. Camera views can helpful, yet often strange behaving, however, overall - Spidey fans will likely find this title to be a warm welcome over some of the previous releases.

Spider-Man-Shattered Dimensions is available for the modern game consoles (Wii, PS3, Xbox 360), and is rated T for Teen. A version for the Nintendo DS is rated E 10+. Uniquely, depending on point-of-purchase, a variety of unlockable bonus (costumes) are available.
