"Spider-man: Turn Off the Dark" Crew Seem Sure of New Opening Date

"Spider-man" Turn Off The Dark" has had one of the bumpiest roads to Broadway in history with troubles enough to equal any Hollywood "curse" legend. But those involved in the production seem sure that the latest projected opening night will happen.

Bringing Spidey to the stage as a musical hasn't been easy. And it has taken years. When it returned to previews at the Foxwoods Theatre earlier in May 2011, it was a completely different show than the one Julie Taymor left. Reimagined, it has a new story line and new music, and Bono has given it his stamp of approval on talk shows. This came with revelations that he and The Edge agreed with the bad reviews it had been receiving from critics up to that point.

Now it is slated to officially open on Broadway on June 14, 2011. The crew, so to speak, are manifesting more confidence that this date will actually be held to. Bono, The Edge, and Reeve Carney have released a single version of the song "Rise Above" from the play on the official website for "Spider-man: Turn Off The Dark". It is available on Youtube.com, and can be bought on iTunes and at Amazon.com. The confidence is manifested in that the intention is to release the full soundtrack with the original cast performing the numbers (and which will include "Rise Above (Single Version)") on the same day that it opens on Broadway. In fact, it is available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

So do you think it will finally open on June 14, 2011? Well, let's just say things are looking better. And yes, "Rise Above (Single Version)" is a rocking good song. I'm thinking that this musical will be worth the wait.
