Spike the Dinosaur: A Review

Kelly Fleming
I remember sitting on the couch with my son after dinner. This was sometime during the 2008 year. All of the sudden he starts to scream, "I want that! I want that!" To my amazement it was this huge dinosaur that was roaring and all of the kids were laughing, Spike the Dinosaur.

He knew he had a birthday coming up in a couple of months, and I knew it had a big price tag. So, he called his grandfather, and Grandpa said he would look into it. About a week before his 5th Birthday Grandpa took him shopping. Straight to Toys R' Us to look for Spike. After recovering from his near heart-attach when my Father saw the price of Spike, we left the store. But, we made sure he understood Santa might do this if he was good. At the time I was thinking in my head Santa might go shopping at 4am on Black Friday.

My son did receive Spike the Dinosaur on Christmas, but the look in his eyes was definitely worth what I paid for it (discounted). Spike had to be assembled and batteries were needed for both the body and the remote control. The assembly was pretty easy, but the end piece of the tail no matter what we did would keep falling off.

There are different functions to Spike; he is able to roll over, pick up a bone, stand and roar, and even walk. Spike walks kind of heavy so for every step he takes it is like boom, boom. He does scare a couple of nieces of ours, but the majority of children that come over to visit love Spike. He is a popular attraction in this house for kids of all ages including my adults.

If you are thinking about getting Spike I highly recommend it, but do not pay full retail. I bought my Son's from Walmart at half the retail price (on Black Friday). They might tend to get bored of Spike, but every now and then he seems to make his way out of the closet every now and then. They linger the product has been out the cheaper it will be, unless a new version has hit the market. Shop around at the different retail stores and compare prices. I find this to be a great toy for children that are 4 to 8, and of coarse the adults that cannot stop playing with it.
