If you've ever introduced anything vegan to carnivorous friends, you're probably familiar with the look of disgust that appear on their faces at the mention of tofu. White curdled soybeans? How can that ever replace a nice juicy steak? That's what goes through their minds. They usually say things like, "So what do you eat? Just salads at every meal??" This is the first cue not to order a salad when you first introduce friends to vegan-ism. They have to see that there is a world beyond salads because salads are what they assume you're eating. Here are the top four menu items my friends and I always go back to with the first being the best. They are all sandwiches, yes, but they beat any entree, and they leave room for dessert! You must leave room for dessert when you go to Spiral Diner.

1. "The Mitch" Tofu Club

Oh my word. It has a little spice to it, and it's so good your friends are going to ask, "There's tofu in here? Really??!" Yup, there's tofu in there, but it's grilled to perfection. You'll be proud to be a vegan showing off the Mitch. It's layers off yummy flavors. It even has bacon bits and Chipotle mayo.

2. Philly Cheez Steak

If you're really hungry and more in the mood for something hot and loaded to the brim, I would definitely recommend the Philly Cheez Steak. It is made with wheat meat (seitan) and grilled onions, bell peppers, and tomatoes. It is topped with black olives and vegan cheese.

3. Meatball Sub

If you're more in the mood for something hot and Italian, I'd go for the Meatball Sub. Again, it is a generous helping-- a hoagie bun stuffed with vegan meatballs, marinara sauce, vegan cheese and black olives.

4. Patty Melt

If you want a smaller meal and are in the mood for something toasted and light, the Patty Melt is a good choice. It's a smaller serving of vegan meat on toast. The grilled onions and cheez hit the spot.

Now, for the best part: the dessert! I can honestly say that I would choose (and I have) Spiral Diner's dessert over any traditional dessert. The following three are the best they have to offer according to my friends and me. We would readily choose them over the non-vegan alternative offered elsewhere.

1. The Cookies n' Cream Shake

So rich, so satisfying, and it doesn't leave you feeling guilty, sluggish or stuffed. It's rich but refreshing at the same time. It comes in regular or mint and after trying this, you'll never want to go back to Sonic. It's made with organic, unrefined sugar, and it's the perfect alternative for those who are lactose intolerant!

2. The Vanilla Cake

The best vanilla cake I've ever tried, hands down. It's dense, moist, rich and other-worldly. I'm not really a fan of cake any other way. You haven't tried cake until you've tried Spiral Diner's Vanilla Cake. The frosting is great as well. It is sweet without being overly sweet. It also is reassuring knowing that it's made with unbleached organic flour.

3. Peanut Butter Cups

Don't expect a Reese's cup; this thing is 100% better. Plus they are ginormous! When I eat this thing, I can tell there's nothing artificial about the flavors I'm eating. So rich and peanuty. Plus the chocolate coating tastes ultra decadent.
