Materials: Worsted weight cotton yarn such as Lily Sugar and Cream
Color (A) 29 yds
Color (B) 29 yds
Crochet hook, size J/10
Stitch holder or safety pin
Tapestry needle to weave in ends
Gauge: Not critical to this project
Notes: This pattern is worked in a spiral. Do not join at the end of a round or turn.
Special techniques: There are no special stitches, but this dishcloth is worked with two different colors at the same time. Color B is worked into the previous round of Color A. Then a stitch holder is placed in the working loop so it won't get pulled out as you work Color A into the previous round of Color B
Instructions:
Foundation Row: With Color A chain 5, dc in 4th ch from hook, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch; drop Color A; place stitch holder in loop; do not fasten off; do not turn.
Round 1: With rs facing join Color B with slst in first ch of foundation ch, ch3, dc in same ch, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in next ch, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ch3 sp of Color A, skip 1st dc, dc in each dc to corner, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner; drop Color B; place stitch holder in loop; do not fasten off; do not turn.
Round 2: Pick up Color A; (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in ch3 sp of Color B, *skip 1st dc, dc in each dc to corner, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner, rep from * 3 times; drop Color A; place a stitch holder in loop; do not fasten off; do not turn.
Round 3: Pick up Color B; *skip 1st dc, dc in each dc to corner, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner, rep from * 3 times; drop Color B; place stitch holder in loop; do not fasten off; do not turn.
Round 4: Pick up Color A; *skip 1st dc, dc in each dc to corner, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner, rep from * 3 times; drop Color A; place stitch holder in loop; do not fasten off; do not turn.
Round 5: Repeat Round 3.
Round 6: Repeat Round 4 except 1dc in last corner; fasten off
Round 7: Pick up Color B; *skip 1st dc, dc in each dc to corner, (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner, rep from * 1 time, skip next dc, dc in each dc to corner; do not fasten off; do not turn.
Edging: With Color B 4sc in corner, sc in each dc to corner, 4sc in corner, sc in each dc, 3sc in last dc of Color A, sc in side of last dc of Color A, sc in ch2sp of Color B, sc in each dc to corner, 4sc in corner, sc in each dc to corner, join with a slst to first sc; fasten off.
Finishing: Weave in ends.

Cool pattern! I make and use crocheted dishcloths all the time- I'll have to try this one!
These really do hold up well with repeated use. But if you want to make a rectangle, make the beginning chain longer. I crocheted large rectangular afghan by starting with 16 chains, but I thought the spiral wasn't obvious enough, so I posted it as a dishcloth pattern. - Thanks for you comment!
Do you think that I could do this and just lengthen the sides to make a decorative dish towel?? (I'm wary of actually using these!)
