This article will cover the Spirit of Summer non-combat vanity pet available to players within World of Warcraft Cataclysm. This guide will cover various details about the pet as well as how both Horde and Alliance players should go about trying to attain the creature. You can also find pictures of the Spirit of Summer in the upper right corner which you can click on to make larger.
Spirit of Summer is a non-combat pet that is attainable by either Horde or Alliance members during the Midsummer Fire Festival, an annual in-game event within World of Warcraft. This event takes place every year between June 21st and July 5th throughout which you can attain stacks of Burning Blossoms by performing tasks like putting out specific fires located throughout the game world. Once you have accrued a total of 350 of these Burning Blossoms you can exchange them at one of the Midsummer Merchant or Suppliers which are also scattered throughout the game world during this event, for one of the Captured Flame items which will teach one of your characters how to summon the Spirit of Summer. Both the Burning Blossoms and the Captured Flame both bind when picked up which means the only way to attain this pet is through participation in the event.
The Spirit of Summer is a unique companion, which doesn't have much of an actual model to speak of, being a almost completely transparent face that is just barely visible through the red particle effect haze that bursts forth from this creature, if it can be called that. In addition there are a trio of smaller red hazes with blue trails that circle about the primary portion of the Spirit of Competition. This is a flying pet which means it will hover alongside you while traveling on a flying mount but it has no sounds or special animations to speak of.
