Spirited

A Poem Inspired by the Movie Hidalgo

Julia Catron
Hooves are pounding
In perfect rhythm
Feel the ground shake
Announcing their arrival

Spotted flesh
Soaring mane
Hooves flying
Just a blur

Was there a rider upon its back
Or was that simply imagination
The rider looked a bit like you
Or are you seeing clearly

Suddenly the sound is gone
No trace of horse or rider
No trail of dust
No hoof prints on the ground

Is this your animal guide
Calling you to listen
To the wisdom and lessons
Its purpose is to teach

Hooves are pounding
In perfect rhythm
Inside your chest
The beating of your heart
