If someone came to you with a book that didn't have an author and told you that this book held the key to eternal life and you have to believe everything in the book, you might be a bit skeptical. It takes many years of reinforcement and repetition to make a person believe in something blindly. While all of us have different experiences in our lives, we tend to believe what we are told to believe and usually accept what society dictates as the main stream belief.
It can be work to let go of some of these beliefs that may be holding us back from having spiritual realizations. You may even believe that if your beliefs were stronger that maybe you would gain more knowledge. Knowledge is a delicate issue in todays world, knowledge is lacking in many aspects of each and every one of our lives.
When we are ready to have the knowledge it will come naturally. It isn't necessary to force yourself to have these realizations, one does not need any special ceremonies or preparations, although some cultures encourage this. These realizations are happening to us everyday but most of us fail to notice. It really only takes the desire to know more that allows it to be presented to us.
Attempt to be more aware of what is happening around you. Take notice as to how you feel during certain parts of your day. Spirit can be very subtle, so subtle that it can take you years to realize something that you have already known since you were a child. The child is in all of us. Some cultures believe that when a child is born it knows everything it needs to know from living past lives and as they grow they are getting a refresher course to remember it all. Take the opportunity to grow and learn from yourself, because we are the best teachers for ourselves, just listen to your inner self.
You are your greatest resource, not anyone else, because all of us hold the keys to the universe, but it is up to us to realize this and use the knowledge as best as we can.
