Splendor in San Juan Capistrano

Julie Moore

Capistrano is a fort of nature and God. When the blazing sun hits the high sky, the bells of Capistrano begin to whisper in the background. Quietly chiming, their enchanting song echoes like a little girl's prized music box. The soft ringing waltzes around the few quiet people milling about. As the soft lullaby soothes the minds of the people, the flowers soothe both their eyes and noses. The bright shades of fiery red, sea blue, sundrop yellow, and the rest of the artist's palette paint a watercolor masterpiece. The aroma dripping with sweetness cannot help but engulf even the most nonchalant of guests. The flower's sweet perfume even finds its way into the church. Suddenly, the sun's rays shine through the small stained-glass windows, creating a virtual kaleidoscope of colors splashing on the pews. While in front, the pure gold altar glistens. Through all this, a still and stiff Mary gazes toward the lit candles. Their flames flicker a lively dance. Behind the altar, precious metal and gems cast in the walls illuminate the room. The light beams ricochet off the glass and gold, swiftly flying out the back door to survey the land. Capistrano certainly is a mission of peace and serenity.
