SpongeBob SquarePants

A Silly Kid's Show that Makes Me Laugh!

Suzanne Rose
For Who
Nowadays everyone knows who spongebob is, but the day I found him on my TV it was a fluke. I began watching this cute, silly, funny Nick cartoon a few years ago and I couldn't help but laugh at it. So as you can guess, I think this show is great for 20-somethings or any adult willing to admit they like silly things!

As for kids, every kid I've seen loves this show. They want the toys, the games, the clothes, the stickers, the everything. Spongebob is really just a kid himself and he has very childlike ideas and behaviors that any child can relate to. This means kids will learn from the show while the adults are in the corner laughing at the stupid jokes.

Basic Plot
Spongebob is a Sponge! who lives in a pineapple under the sea... you've heard the song. His love is his job at the Krappy Patty as a fry cook. The show centers around him and all the trouble he gets into from day to day. It's quite a simple plot! See the characters section for more detail.

Characters
Spongebob (voiced by Tom Kenny) is a very naive and young sponge kid who is always curious - usually a little too curious. He's a happy sponge which annoys the heck out of some people but basically he's so naive

SpongeBob SquarePants: [on working the night shift] Isn't this great Squidward? Just you & me together for hours and hours and hours! And then the sun'll come up, and it'll be tomorrow, and we'll still be working! It'll be just like a sleepover! Only we'll be sweaty and covered with grease!

Patrick (voiced by Bill Fagerbakke) is even more naive than Spongebob - well he's just plain stupid. He's also a happy starfish because he doesn't know any better most of the time. He is Spongebob's best friend and they are together almost always. He lives under a rock which is humorous AND accurate!

SpongeBob SquarePants: Quick, Patrick, without thinking: if you could have anything right now, what would it be?
Patrick: Um... more time for thinking.

Sandy (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence) is a squirrel from Texas who lives under the oceans with these two silly creatures. She lives in an air bubble, or otherwise travels around in a space suit. It's pretty funny to imagine a squirrel living underwater - but like I said the show is just silly. She's a strong girl and smarter than Spongebob.

Sandy: I'm going to give that legless fiend what-fer and there's nothing you can say that's gonna stop me.
SpongeBob: What if I said "blargen fa-diddle nachen?"
Sandy: Well, I gotta admit that's slowed me down.

Mr. Krabs (voiced by Clancy Brown) is Spongebob's boss and owner of the Krabby Patty. He is all about the MONEY!!! and will do anything for 1 penny. There's really not much more to him than that.

Mr. Krabs: If you're wasting time, you're wasting money... and that's just *sick*.

Squidward (voiced by Rodger Bumpass) is Spongebob's neighbor and although Spongebob thinks they are great friends, Squidward is overall annoyed by him. He's a negative squid, always looking at the down side of things, and feels he is better than everyone else in the ocean! Spongebob can't help but get on his nerves without even knowing he's doing it.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Hey Squidward. Hey Squidward. Hey Squidward. Hey Squidward.
Squidward: Okay, I'll bite. What is it.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Do you know what day it is?
Squidward: Annoy Squidward Day?
SpongeBob SquarePants: No, silly. That's on the fifteenth.

Plankton (voiced by Mr. Lawrence) is obsessed with getting the Krabby Patty recipe. His business, the Chum Bucket, just doesn't get the pull that Mr. Krabs does. He will work day and night trying to come up with a new scheme to get that recipe!

Plankton: Just look at him. Square. The shape of evil.

Plankton: Surrender that ice-cream cone, or every waking moment for you will become a swirling torrent of pain and misery!

Those are the main characters seen on virtually every show. More come and go as the episodes go on and there is constant fun.

Sample Storylines/Lessons
This is one of those cartoons where 2 15min episodes make up the 1 half hour show. So your kid can watch half the show and still get a full story. This is great if you don't want your kids sitting at the TV all day. Gives them a taste of fun. Of course, most episodes have a lesson regardless of how silly the show is! Here are some examples.

1) MuscleBob BuffPants
Spongebob puts on blow up arm muscles to impress everyone at the beach...but he doesn't realize that he can't lift things with fake muscles! He ends up making a fool of himself by trying to lift heavy anchors and things and kids learn that it's not worth it to lie just to impress others. Be yourself.

2) Survival of the Idiots
Spongebob and Patrick sneak into Sandy's tree-dome during hibernation season - even though she told them not to disturb her. They have fun and games at first playing in the snow, but then find they cannot get out as everything starts to freeze shut! They end up having to spend the whole winter in the dome freezing cold and kids learn to respect others wishes because they probably know what they are talking about when they warn you of something!

3) New Student Starfish
Patrick is so bored everyday as Spongebob is at driving school, so Spongebob tells him to come along. However Patrick quickly starts ruining Spongebob's perfect reputation as a great student! He whispers in class, passes notes, draws cartoons and they both get detention. This is a good episode to show kids that their acting out in class not only hurts them, but hurts their fellow classmates. Pay attention in school.

There are many more episodes - some have lessons - some are just silly - but all are entertaining.

Conclusion
Catch the next episode of Spongebob as soon as you can! Your kids need something truly silly to watch every so often, and there are some lessons hidden within. If you haven't seen this cute sponge yet, what are you waiting for???
