Founded by Ruth Kaiser, The Spontaneous Smiley Project is described as a "conceptual art piece that lives on the internet." The web site is devoted to the smile, and has a photographic gallery of smiley faces found, not on people's faces, but in nature, in art, in random objects, or random groupings of objects.
Kaiser has a wonderful ability to find smiley faces all around her, and documents them with her camera when she finds them; she then shares them with the world through the website, thus giving us all the opportunity to be cheered by a smile. You cannot help but smile yourself when you look at the pictures of the spontaneous smiles posted on the website. And the urge to go and out and look for your own is strong.
Everyday people are also given the opportunity to be part of Spontaneous Smiley, and further Kaiser's mission by becoming "smile captains," and uploading photos of their own found smiley faces to the website. The Spontaneous Smiley project is "thousands of people photographing and posting the smiley faces they find in everyday objects."
This has got people of all ages, located all over the world, involved in looking for and finding smiley faces, and spreading smiles around the world by sharing their finds.. And the search for spontaneous smiles, whether successful or not, adds an interesting twist to any outing; finding one feels like a real accomplishment. But beware: it can be addicting!
Images of these spontaneously-found smiley faces also adorn shirts for adults, children, and even dogs, other clothing items, hats, and bags which are available for purchase, as is Kaiser's book, Spontaneous Smiley Face, which features images of spontaneous smiles.
Visit Spontaneous Smiley, it will bring a smile to your face; become a smile captain, it will bring a smile to the face of others. Adopt the Spontaneous Smiley Philosophy. "Decide to notice. Stop and see the Smileys."

Maybe she was hoping they'd rub off on her!
:) I knew a woman who had smiley faces all over her work cubicle but she did not have a very sunny disposition. It was funny!
Looking for them sure is addicting! And I love that TV commercial that rolls through dozens of Spontaneous Smileys.
