Just in time for Halloween, Disney releases their newest entry into the "Air Buddies" franchise. Every kid ten and under loves these adorable pups. What kid doesn't love a dog that talks? Well, they won't be disappointed by "Spooky Buddies."
"Spooky Buddies" takes the "talking puppies far across town to a mysterious mansion where something very spooky is going on. In a race against a no-good hound, the Buddies and their new friends, Pip, Zelda, Rodney and Skip, must stop Warwick the Warlock -and save the world from his dastardly deeds."
There's not much to tell people about "Spooky Buddies." It's the same as any of the other movies in the franchise. Let's be honest. Kids love them and most parents cringe when their young ones bring the films up to watch together. For the most part, they have good life lessons and are harmless fun. This one will step over the line for some parents. It has the "Air Buddies" participating in a séance and battling a warlock, which I know some will find offensive to their religious beliefs.
As is usual with these movies, there's the one semi-big actor they use for name recognition to help draw adults into watching "Spooky Buddies. This time around, we get Harland Williams as Warwick the Warlock. Williams does what he is expected and makes an appearance.
There's only one thing that is important when you're talking about "Spooky Buddies." Are the kids going to like it? I would be willing to take a guess and say yes. Talking dogs in costumes and magic all mixed into one movie? Sounds like a winning combination to me. While you're watching it in pain remember, "It's for the children."
Disney sent me the Blu-ray + DVD 2-Disc Combo Pack of "Spooky Buddies." Disc 1 is the Blu-ray version. It features an All-new music video "Monster Mash," performed by the cast of "Shake It Up;" Sneak peek of Disney's "Treasure Buddies;" and "DIGS: Rosedbud Edition" where we join Rosebud as she invites you to into her home for an exciting tour. Disc 2 includes all the same special features on a regular format DVD.
