Spooky and Ghoulish Halloween Decorations

Make Your Home the Creepiest One in the Neighborhood!

Michelle Robinson
Carved pumpkins make great Halloween decorations, of course-but what if you want to go beyond that? What if you would like your home to become the spookiest one in your neighborhood? Simply hanging a few orange lights and setting out a few jack-o-lanterns is not going to cut it. You need some creepy fixtures and ghoulish objects, much like what you would possibly find in a haunted house.

So, where can you find eerie, frightful, or just plain weird Halloween decorations for your lawn and porch? Well, I've done the searching for you. I tracked down some of the best sites for buying hair-raising Halloween gear, and I included some of my favorite items from these sites below.

FrightCatalog.com

Be careful with your wallet at this site-you could spend thousands of dollars here on Halloween decorations easily! FrightCatalog.com offers specialty items like animated props, such as a 6-foot Shivering Mummy for $449 (plug him in and his internal motor causes his elastic and spring-loaded joints to make him look like he is shivering). Other animated props can cost as much as nearly $3000. If you have a lot of trees on your lawn, covering them with cobwebs would be a nice touch-try buying this site's Cob Web Machine for $99.

ScaryDecorations.com

This site is not set up as well as I would like; it is a little difficult to navigate. But, don't let that deter you from checking out all of the amazing decorations here! One of my favorites is a 25-inch Solar Powered Skeleton Arm with Lantern, which costs $77.99. Stand it up in the grassy part of your lawn and it will look just like a skeleton arm that has reached up from under the ground. And for the trick-or-treaters, you need a candy bowl, right? Try using this one, the Scary Scull Candy Bowl for $12.99.

DarksideDisplays.com

Prices are pretty reasonable at this site; you won't break the bank trying to get the gruesome gear that you want here. I particularly like the Rogue Spider, which is a steal at only $16. This spider is over 4.5 feet wide, and it has long spindly legs, so it is definitely spooky. This site also sells authentic-looking barbed wire that is made of plastic. They have a few different versions, but this Rusted Barbed Wire is the one that I think looks the best. Wouldn't that look horrifying wrapped around a few trees or along your fence?

AnatomyWarehouse.com

No Halloween display would be complete without bones and skeletons, right? This site has a nice selection of lifelike human bones-in fact, this site provides skeletal models to schools and universities, so that tells you that this is a great place to get the most realistic specimens for your nightmarish design. You can purchase a 10-pound bag of Assorted Bones for $39.95, which will contain a skull, a foot, a lower jaw, ribs, and more. Or maybe you would like a full skeleton like this Budget Bart Skeleton for $79.95. It is about 4 feet 2 inches tall, and it comes with a stand as well as a hook at the top for hanging.

HalloweenMart.com

You have to have tombstones if you are going to have the creepiest house in the neighborhood. Take a look at this Angel Statue and Pediment tombstone which sells for $139.99. Sounds rather pricey for a poly-foam statue, but this one is really nice-it is 5 feet tall and has an angel of death standing atop a pedestal. Or, try this Angel Granite tombstone for $47.99. This one is nearly 3 feet tall and is also made of poly-foam.

TheHorrorDome.com

This site has some really unique items-and the prices do reflect that, so you may end up spending some big bucks here. One of my favorites is this Grillin Gaby, which costs $229.99. This item looks like a gruesome head being held over an open flame, and when plugged into a standard wall socket, the head shakes and the lower jaw opens and closes as if in agony, reacting to the flame below. It is quite a spectacle! I like this Half Undead full-size body prop as well. It sells for $675, but it would be a worth addition to your lawn-simply lay it out on the grass and it would look like one of the undead is rising out of yard!

DapperCadaver.com

You probably want some body parts to scatter around, don't you? You can find some really ghastly ones at this site. They have 8-feet of Intestines for $75 and an Exposed Bone Hand that looks partially decayed for $150. This site also has a wide variety of jarred specimens, which look perfectly creepy, such as this Human Heart Replica, which sells for $30.

HalloweenConnection.com

There are some really great choices at this site. If you enjoy startling people, you will like this Peeping Zombie for $589. It is a rather large tombstone that has a life-size zombie behind it. The zombie pops up whenever the motion sensor is activated-this will definitely scare some trick-or-treaters! And how about a coffin or two? You can get this Classic Toe Pincher Coffin for $289.99.

Each of the sites above has many more items than I have listed-do some exploring and you will be sure to find some Halloween goodies that you love. Be sure to check the sales and clearance pages as well. It doesn't hurt to sign up for a site's newsletter, either-sometimes email newsletters contain discount codes or special sales. And, of course, since this is online shopping, you do have to think about shipping and handling-don't forget to check those rates before you place an order or you may be unpleasantly surprised. Some oversized items require extra shipping time as well, so shop early if possible.

Have fun decorating your house this Halloween!
