Eyeballs in a jar, Brains and Zombie brains add a ghoulish feel to any décor. This takes almost no time at all and creates a great effect.
You will need:
** Pinking Shears or scissors
** 3 clean glass jars with tight sealing lids. I used two gravy jars and an olive jar.
** Acrylic paint - two dark kinds of red, and two bright shades of green.{ OPTIONAL: food coloring as a substitute but the colors will not be as pronounced and may not dye the noodles enough.}
** A small amount of decorative fabric (enough to cover your jar lids). A 2' x 2' square should be more than enough. Cheesecloth could also be substituted, dyed darker with coffee or left plain.
** 1-1/2 yards of decorative ribbon, or bailing twine for a spookier look.
** Three packages of Ramen type soup. {NOTE: The amount of Ramen will depend on the size jars you use. You will want it to be quite snug in the jar}
** One large package of sticky eyeballs. (I got a package for $2.00 at target in the Halloween isle. They are sticky, inedible eyeballs.
** Grain alcohol, a small pot, one fork, and paper towels.
OPTIONAL: Printable labels for your computer to label the jars using spooky gothic type text, with or without a border. Or oaktag labels with strings attached, you can burn the edges for an aged effect.
Directions:
All versions: Clean jars and lids, set aside.
Eyeballs:
Fill jar with sticky eyeballs. Pour in grain alcohol to the top making sure the eyeballs are completely submerged. Screw on lid tightly.
Zombie Brains & Brains:
Brains: Pour about 1 cup of water into the small pot. Squeeze in about two tablespoons of red colors. Unwrap Ramen, DO NOT BREAK!!! Discard seasoning packet. Boil Ramen until pliable but not soft. Be careful, paint boils faster than water alone.
Using the fork transfer painty noodles into the jar, pressing down firmly so it is tightly packed. Rinse out small pot immediately. Pour in grain alcohol to the top making sure the Ramen is completely submerged. Screw on lid tightly.
Zombie Brains: Follow instructions above substituting the red paint for the green paint.
All Versions: Cut a small square out of the fabric with pinking sheers. Large enough to cover jar lid with a small amount of overhang. Secure with ribbon, and tie a bow.
There you have it spooky specimen jars in a snap. Be sure to secure lids tightly. The alcohol is used to preserve the content and should not be consumed by anyone. Happy haunting.
