Sporkle and Sporcle: A Comparison and Review of Two Similar yet Different Game Websites

Similar Names Different Offerings

Sporcle was founded in 2007. Their tagline says "mentally stimulating diversions." They have quizzes for entertainment, memory and diversion. The games you will find on Sporcle are more of a mental game and they are quite addictive. Can you name 26 countries whose name can be typed without using the bottom row of your computer keyboard? If you were given a list of authors, could you name the books they wrote that were banned? It's harder than you think.

Quizzes cover a multitude of subjects. Choose from geography, entertainment, science, history, literature, sports, language, just for fun, religion, movies, television, music, gaming, miscellaneous and holiday. You can do quizzes created by other users or create and submit your own.

According to our sources, there are over 2,600 games on Sporcle. They have also released an iPhone app that has 250 games. And, as with so many other gaming sites, you can find them on Facebook.

We found Sporcle to be fun and quite addicting; the only downfall we could find was the extensive use of ads. But hey, a website has to make some money and you are playing for free.

Sporkle by contrast is more of a traditional gaming site. Sporkle has been around quite a while longer than Sprocle, according to the WayBack Machine internet archives. While this site doesn't receive quite as much traffic or have as many incoming links from other website, it does give you the more traditional games you are used to finding online. They offer free game without a login.

The site is also supported by ads, but the banner ads on this site don't seem quite as intrusive or overdone as Sporcle does. You also have the ability to purchase games for download from Sporkle.

Sporkle has web games like Mad Lab Cow, Sugar Rush, Granny Turismo and my personal favorite, Clicky Panicky. There are many more games to choose from. You can also find multiplayer games like 4 Across Birds, Yahtzee, Backgammon, and Reverso.

By comparison, both sites are similar in name and both come up when you are searching for one or the other. They both offer games for free. They differ in the amount of games available and the types of games they have. For mental games you should go to Sporcle. There are far fewer games on Sporkle, but if you are looking for more fun, traditional web games then this is the destination you are looking for.
