Basketball
Professional basketball is alive and well in Boston and goes by the name, the Boston Celtics. This team has the awesome reputation of having the longest running winning streak of consecutive wins. This occurred between the years 1959 and 1965. Today, home games are played at the TD Banknorth Garden stadium, which was completed in 1995.
Football
The New England Patriot's, part of the NFL, is one of two teams that are known for winning three Super Bowls in a four-year span. Boston football has been around since 1862 when the first organized team played on the Boston Common. Home games for the football team are played in Foxboro at the Gillette Stadium. This is actually about forty-five minutes from Boston.
Baseball
Boston baseball has been around since 1875. Not quite as old or as legendary, Fenway franks are part of today's nostalgic Boston baseball experience. In fact, Fenway Stadium has been home to the Boston Red Sox since 1912. In 1903, the Boston Red Sox won the first World Series. Due to the team's popularity, it might be difficult to obtain seats during the season for baseball sporting events.
Hockey
The first American hockey team to receive a National Hockey League franchise is the Boston Bruins. This team has won the Stanley Cup 5 times and is considered one of the most successful teams in national hockey. Games are available for viewing between the months of October and April.
Horse Racing
East Boston offers the excitement of horseracing between the months of September and June. The thoroughbreds perform in flat races at the Suffolk Downs Racetrack. Harness races occur from January 1 to December 15.
Greyhound Racing
For residents and tourists who enjoy Greyhound Racing, two separate locations are available throughout the year. The first is the Raynham-Taunton Greyhound Park and the second is the Wonderland Dog Track in Revere. Call ahead if you intend to bring children along, as there might be some restrictions.
