1. Team Sports Equipment. You can buy equipment that the teenager can use for sports that they are involved in. There are several things, for example, that you could purchase for a teen that plays baseball. New gloves, batting gloves, extra baseballs, a new bat, or cleats are all things that a baseball player would love to see as a gift. Football players could also use new cleats, a professional grade football, or some safety equipment or pads. Similar lists could be comprised for soccer players, lacrosse players, or basketball players. You can also buy sports equipment to try and encourage a teen to take up a new sport. There are some sports that are not team sports that could be taken up, without breaking the bank only to find out that the teen does not like it. Tennis and racquet ball equipment can be very inexpensive, and it can encourage a teen boy to take up the sport. These sports are all very active, and will help your teen get valuable exercise. Sports such as racquet ball are also different enough from the norm to encourage teens to try them, and they are fun enough to get teens to stick with them. Sports equipment is always a great choice for a gift!
2. A Gym Membership. This may seem a bit strange for a teen, but a gym membership can be a great gift. Teens today do not seem to be as active as they used to be, so a gym membership could be a tool in helping them to remain healthy. Unconventional means of exercise are also more en vogue with teens today. A gym membership can provide the equipment that teenagers enjoy using, such as the treadmills, free weights, and other exercise machines. A gym that also has a pool and racquet ball courts is an added bonus. Check into memberships with your local YMCA, or Community Center for the best deals on memberships.
3. Yard Games. Teens are always looking for things to do with their friends. There are a lot of yard games that are fun to play, and easy to set up and use. There are many kits available at most sports retailers, as well as discount retailers such as Wal-Mart. You can get a volleyball/badminton set for a very reasonable price. You can also purchase a nicer volleyball net, and set it up permanently, perhaps even putting in a sand court if your teen is interested in playing more seriously. Other inexpensive yard games are yard dart, key hole, or horseshoes. These games can bring hours of fun for your teen and their friends. Such games will cause your yard to be the place to be!
4. Archery Equipment. Many schools today have an archery team, and purchasing equipment for your team could encourage them to participate in this alternative sport. Archery is a great individual sport, which teaches discipline and focus. There is, of course, a safety factor with this sport. You must have enough space to safely shoot the equipment, and a teen that is responsible enough to handle the equipment safely. This is a great way to help teach your teen some responsibility. One warning: this can develop into an expensive sport, so only enter into it if you are willing to spend more money later on to keep your teen involved.
These are all suggestions to get your teen boy involved in sports. However, if you are looking for some gifts that are only "sports related", there are a lot of other options! These won't get your teen out and active, but they will be gifts that any kid would love to have. Consider these suggestions:
1. Sports Memorabilia. This used to be baseball cards. Now, there are tons of gifts that you could purchase for your teen, the least of which are baseball cards! There are numerous websites available where you can buy sports paraphernalia signed by your teen's favorite player. Whether he wants a helmet signed by Ben Rothlisberger, or a baseball signed by Alex Rodriguez, you will be able to find it! This type of gift can certainly get very pricy, but you can look at it as an investment if you choose the right artifact. All you have to do is find that original Joe Montana helmet, and you will see the potential of this type of gift!
2. Team Jerseys. If your teen likes sports, they will have a favorite team, and a favorite player. Team jerseys are one of the best gifts that you can get. You can hit two birds with one stone...a great sports gift and clothing at the same time. One word of warning: make sure you buy the right team, and the right player. A mistake here could condemn your expensive gift to the bottom of a drawer, never to be worn, or worse yet, to the yard sale sold for a quarter.
3. Team Clothing. Other team sportswear is also available. Especially, if your teen likes college sports, this is a great option for a gift. Sweatshirts or tee shirts are available for every college. If you want to give a gift that is truly unique, consider purchasing a set of game day tee shirts. Many university stores have a program where you can pay for the game day tee shirts for their football or basketball season up front, and then the shirt is shipped to the recipient of your gift the week of the game. Usually you will purchase 5-10 shirts in this manner. Another good source of team clothing is from Steve and Barry's. They have a wide selection of college athletic apparel, and they have great prices. Often, a heavyweight hooded sweatshirt with embroidered lettering can be purchased for $15 or less.
4. Sports Tickets. If you live close enough to a sporting venue, tickets to a football or basketball game would make a great gift. Planning a day to the big game could be the best gift a teen receives. The environment of the game is something that cannot be duplicated in front of the TV.
If your teen likes sports, any one of these gifts will be a big hit. You can find any of these gifts by shopping at local sporting goods stores, or by searching the internet. If you choose carefully, a sports related gift can be the most popular gift your teen could receive!

Post a CommentNice article. Buying kids stuff like this is a way to keep them active. I am a firm believer in every kid should join a sport at some point. Sports teach a kid a lot of values they can carry all throughout life.
Here in Charleston Sportsmart is a great store for these types of things and Dicks Sporting Goods.
