Sports Illustrated Swimsuit 2010 an Amazing Cover: Brooklyn Decker Excites
Brooklyn Decker, Wife of Andy Roddick Graces Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition Cover 2010
This year, Brooklyn Decker excites the many SI swimsuit fans. Sporting various sexy swim wear, she graces the glossy pages. Men drool at her beauty, whereas women grow green with envy over her perfect body.
On top of everything else, the cover girl is Andy Roddick's wife. Given that there have been many high profile names to have graced the cover of this issue of the popular magazine (such as Tyra Banks and Heidi Klum), one can't help but wonder if there will be a reality TV show and major modeling career in the works for the young woman.
While some may think that the annual swimsuit edition of the magazine is sexist, I would have to beg to differ. It's a tradition. Men have always liked looking at beautiful women. There's nothing inherently wrong with this - after all, women like looking at handsome men as well.
However, it's when things are taken to the excess that the issue becomes somewhat sexist. For instance, if Sports Illustrated had an annual nude photo issue, that might be a little offensive. Swimsuits? Not so much.
The annual Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition was first published in 1964. The purpose of the issue wasn't to show skin or to make men oogle over women. During the winter months, readership wanes as you can't do too many sports while it's cold, wet, or rainy out.
As you can imagine the swimsuit edition caused a ruckus, and there were many people who placed Sports Illustrated in the same category as Playboy and Penthouse. The feelings intensified in 1978 when a model graced the cover in a fishnet swimsuit that showed a wee bit too much skin for the time.
Readers canceled their subscriptions, but the controversy (and sexy photo) won the magazine back more readership in the long run.
A lot has changed in the forty plus years since the first swimsuit edition graced the newsstands. While a lot has changed, the excitement over the issue remains from year to year. Brooklyn Decker, tennis star Andy Roddick's wife, is only latest to grace the cover. We will keep an eye on this beautiful woman's career, and see if she becomes another big name such as Heidi Klum or Tyra Banks.
