The Lewis County Health Department, is one of the many facilities that your child can have an annual exam or physical check up. Many of these services are offered at little or no cost, depending on the source of income and insurance. Children covered by Kentucky Medicaid can typically receive these physical checkups for free. However, they may be limited to one per year. In addition, those without insurance can still get their son or daughter's sports physical at a relatively low price. Around this time of the year, the health department will have special days and times designated for this purpose. The dates are subject to change and are listed in the Vanceburg paper, The Lewis County Herald. If you can not make one of these dates, you can simply schedule an appointment by calling (606) 796 2632. For convenience, extended hours may be recognized on certain days of the week.
Another option for health checkups is at the Primary Plus facility in Vanceburg. Like the Lewis County Health Department, Vanceburg Primary Plus accepts Medicaid and several other insurance providers. Those without insurance can take advantage of their sliding fee program. The sliding fee program is based on the ability to pay and proof of income must be provided. Payment is expected at time of service. To set up an appointment for sports physicals, interested individuals should call (606) 796 3029.
In collaboration with Lewis County schools, there are a variety of health fairs that will be taking place. Dates, times, and locations have yet to be announced. These particular programs are for health checkups, immunizations, and other back to school necessities. In the past, some of these events have been held in the local school gymnasiums. The school that your child attends will usually send home information regarding these events. Announcements can also be found in the local paper or on the Vanceburg radio station, WKKS.
In addition to the above mentioned practices, many private physicians offices will offer sports physicals. Dr. Frances O'Neil's office, located conveniently across from Lewis County Central Elementary School in Vanceburg, can also provide physical checkups. However, the practice is not limited to this and is considered a family practice. Appointments can be made by calling (606) 796 0010, or by dropping by the front desk.
For those who live outside of city limits, Dr. Tommy Von Luthre provides these same services in the Black Oak area of Lewis County. His office is located at the Bel Air Clinic, right off of Route 8. For more information call (606) 796 2511. This is also considered a family practice and can provide additional services.
Most of these facilities in Vanceburg will only provide sports physicals by appointment. These appointments fill up fast, the best bet is calling as soon as possible. No appointments are necessary when utilizing the health fair option, but expect long lines and wait times.
