Or is it? While Spottt promotes itself as a 'link exchange' it is in reality nothing more than a banner exchange, and not even that - they actually support only 125 x 125 buttons to exchange. If you're not familiar with these terms a link exchange is where two web owners exchange links, web addresses, with one another. These link exchanges are static and permanent. Banner exchanges which were popular a few years back rotate member's banners on the sites of other members and in exchange you display the banners of those members.

Now we all know if you have a web site online it does you nor your business any good if people can't find it. This is where link exchanges, banner exchanges, and even button exchanges can help the internet marketing newbie. The best of these however is links. Links to your web site from other sites can help your business in 2 key ways. The first being when visitors to the other site see the link they take it as a recommendation and visit your site. The second is the major search engines such as Yahoo and Google rank a web's online presence by links pointing to it. The more links to you the higher you will be ranked on the search engine.

While a service such as Spottt may bring a few visitors to your web site they are not going to help your search engine ranking at all. In addition it is required that you have the proper sized button to include in their system - they will resize your banner or whatever you have but it won't be proportional unless you have a square to start with. With the type of 'button exchange' Spottt is offering you will be lucky to bring any visitors much less to produce actual customers.

The Spottt program is very simple to sign up for basic information, upload your button, and then place the Spottt code on your web site or blog. Be forewarned the code is rather cumbersome and per Spottt requirements it must be in the top fold of your page - that means no having to scroll down to find it. Once that's done you just need to wait for the traffic to your site to explode.

Don't hold your breath though. In a 72 hour tracking study not one hit was received from the Spottt program on the sample site. True it could be the button wasn't attractive or eye catching but the test was run on a second site with a different button and the same results. There was however plenty of credits banked from mainly the ads promoted by Spottt.

If you are looking for traffic to your web site or blog you may want to consider the best way known - providing quality content that will be searchable on the search engines. Yes this may take some time and effort but if you have something to offer the traffic will come and that traffic will be quality traffic.
