Spring 2009 Fashion Trends: Pants

Fashion conscious women this spring will be wearing a wide variety of styles. Some of the new pants styles for spring 2009 are reminiscent of the 1980s. There are also some classic styles of pants available that have stood the test of time.

While there are many shorter-length pants that are similar to Capri's on the runways for spring - one style virtually missing from the runways are the mid-calf Capri length pants that have been so popular for the last few years. There are several designers offering a shorter length pant, but it falls midway between the ankle and mid-calf rather than between the ankle and the knee. They are still cute, just slightly longer.

Harem pants: - The design of these pants can be expected to add the illusion of fullness to the hip and thigh area. The loose design will look best on an ultra-thin person due to that illusion of extra fullness. Would I personally wear Harem pants? I did in the 1980's - but now -no. If I was planning to wear a pair of harem pants I would pair them with a snug-fitting top like a tank top.

Slouchy Trouser pants: Slouchy trouser pants have a relaxed roomy look and feel. Think comfort when you think about slouchy trouser pants for spring 2009. Slouchy trouser pants are a style that could be dressed up for the office or down for a day at home. Team up slouchy trouser pants with a delicate, floral, fitted top for spring 2009 - but do not go too loose with the top - it could look sloppy or make you look heavier than you really are.

Slim legged pants: Skinny pants are making a comeback this spring. Slim-legged pants have a the effect of making the wearer look thinner when matched up with a loose fitting, feminine top and a sandal that has at least a slight heel. The slimming effect can be lost, however when worn with a too-tight top or an overly chunky shoe.

Textured pants: Pants made with a variety of textured fabrics are going to be a popular trend this spring. Think silks, appliqué designs, interesting fabric patterns, and even sequins. Anything goes with color and texture this spring! Plain gray and neutral colors will still have a place in fashionable circles but wild floral prints and textures will be there right beside them.

Ankle length pants: Pants that fall slightly above the ankle are a popular trend for pants in spring 2009. The choices include cuffed slim-legged or harem style pants, open ended loose-fitting or slim legged pants, or pants with drawstrings on ankle/calf area. Whether cuffed, loose, slim-fitting, or drawstring fits your personal taste there will be an abundance of fashionable pants available.
