Spring 2009 Petite Fashion Trends

Step away from the cold for a minute and start thinking about the warm! While many of us are just starting our New Year's resolutions, for many designers Spring is just around the corner. And while the snow swirls around you, designers are already fast at work launching their spring collections.

So what are several of the hottest things we are going to see this year for Petites? Coming back for another year will be black and white combinations. So if you bought that cute black and white floral shirt, it will be great to wear again this year. However, designers will be focusing more on stylized prints than the floral, but floral will do. If you're petite and wanting to try out this combination, consider your shape first. If you have a more rectangular shape, you can create a narrower waistline by wearing a black belt or clothing with a black band slightly below the bust. If you have a triangular shaped figure, wear a black skirt or pants with a white blouse. If you have an upside down triangular figure (larger on top, skinnier on the bottom), wear white pants or skirts with black tops.

Another fashion trend to watch for is the arrival of neutral tones. Cream and sand colors will be popular this year. Pair these with darker browns or khakis to mix up the combination alittle and give alittle mix to your wardrobe. For your petite frame, follow the steps with the black and white combinations. Use belts for rectangular shapes, dark bottoms and light tops for triangular shapes, and dark tops and light bottoms for inverted triangular shaped woman.

Turquoise and marine beach color hues were all over the runways. One popular blog site, Serafina is dedicated to petite women. Petite designer Teresa Le of TLe designs spoke with the owner of the site and gave some great advice for how to wear some of these colors. She suggested the use of belts, chiffon or jersey fabrics, and focusing on buying pieces that gave a draping or flouncing look to the pieces worn.

Yellow is also making a comeback again this year. This color doesn't flatter everybody, and some may read this and cringe at the thought of yellow coming back again. However, this year the focus wasn't on yellow articles of clothing, but rather pairing yellow accessories like purses, shoes or a bracelet with your clothing. So if you love yellow but hated the fact it never looked great on you, you can now enjoy a view yellow pieces and stay in style!

Metallics are also creeping their way from popular winter fashion to spring fashion. Silver and gold metallics are the most popular choices. While we've seen many celebrities sporting metallic dresses and tops, petites need to exercise a little caution when wearing metallics. Shorter petite frames look overwhelming in too much metallic, so it's suggested that those who are petite stick with one metallic piece to wear like a metallic handbag or shoes.

If you're a petite woman, you can purchase some of these new Spring trends from any number of designers. Max Azria, designer for BCBG offers a petite dresses and separates line available at Nordstroms. Macy's offers Calvin Klein petite seperates and some dresses. Dillard's also offers petite Calvin Klein dresses. The famous Ralph Lauren offers a complete online petite line as well as in store petite lines. Dresses and separates are available for purchase online directly through the Ralph Lauren website and in stores like Dillard's, Macy's and Nordstrom. And popular wedding dress designer Vera Wang also makes the list as one of the most popular affordable petite designers. She now has her own clothing line at Kohl's, and will begin to offer a petite line at Koh's as well.
