Spring 2009 Plus Size Fashion Trends

Three Great Looks that Are Flattering Whether You Are a Size 14W or 44W+

ShawnTe Pierce
The Spring/Summer 2009 season fashions are hitting the racks and online showrooms already. The trends of this season transcend size, as with every season before and in the future. However, for plus size fashion, the application of these trends is crucial to make the best of full-figures, such as my own. We will take a look at what three major online plus size fashion retailers are offering up for Spring 2009.

Eight dominating themes translated well over to plus sized fashion for Spring/Summer 2009:

- Floral prints; both large and small

- Graphic/Optical Art prints

- Fabric manipulation; pleating, shirring, gathering, ruffles, chunky fringing, braiding, etc

- Purity; light solid colors or just pure white

- Contrast

- Slinky silhouette

- Empire waist; Grecian influence

The Avenue

The Avenue has to be my favorite place to shop. I rarely order from them online as I love walking around the store listening to their themed music and trying on the latest fashions. This Spring/Summer 2009, I have fallen for their sundresses. More specifically I simply adore their Braided Knit Sundress affordably priced at $39.90 and comes in four colors: pink, blue, brown, and black. This simple yet incredibly sexy sundress encompasses three of the eight spring fashion trends:

- Crossover v-neckline with Braided Trim

- Empire waist

- Ruffled hem

- Slinky silhouette

In fact this dress utilized three forms of fabric manipulation, which ordinarily would have been overkill. Fortunately, the light shirring at the arms and bust , the braided trim, and the light ruffling of the hem all work perfectly in unison with the empire waist to create the sexy, slinky silhouette the dress possesses. I think I will be a pretty in pink plus size babe this spring thanks to The Avenue.

Lane Bryant

Lane Bryant is making grand use of the spring fashion trends of floral and graphic/optical art prints for their plus size fashions. For spring 2009 I found the perfect blouse that can be worn with the perfect business casual black, white, grey, or charcoal grey trouser. Lane Bryant's Abstract Plaid Print Shell priced at $34.50 is a trendy blouse suitable for work and play. This great find makes use of the spring 2009 fashion trends of graphic art and contrast. The print is an abstract plaid with a subtle pebble print that is made eye catching with the plaid stripes being in black and grey on a white background. This is a versatile shell for 2009 and beyond.

Kiyonna

The sophisticated and sexy plus size fashions of Kiyonna are a favorite of full-figured ladies "in the know". One of their newest arrivals is the Lola Ruched Dress, which uses the spring fashion trend of the empire waist and the fabric manipulation method, ruching. This incredibly sexy dress is $126.00 made from the ever flattering jersey knit and comes in Vixen red, Black, and Sugar Plum.

Well plus size divas, you know what to look for concerning spring fashion trends of 2009. You can't go wrong with the empire waist dress and shirt as it can enhance a curvy figure and hide one that is not as curvy. Always remember to purchase clothing that fits you comfortably and represents you for who you are: a plus size lady.

Cool! I personally don't need this, but it's awesome to see someone talk about fashion for other sizes than slim ones. People come in all sizes and we don't all look like the models on the runway. I will definitely pass this one around. :-)
