Spring 2010 Makeup for Asians

The Season to Play with Colors

Alexis Valentine
With the frigid weather the U.S. has been getting across the board it's hard to believe that spring is just around the corner. Spring is probably my favorite season because of the nice weather, and the beautiful colors of nature. For some reason pastels are associated with spring, I guess that has to do with the colors of Easter and blooming flowers. I love wearing pastel colors, but this spring it's all about bright color, lots and lots of vibrant colors. Trying to pull off bright makeup can be tricky, even more so depending on your coloring. So I've put together a short list of some good colors that will work best for each skin tone. This will work if you're not Asian as well but are of similar coloring.

This spring there are many makeup trends going on aside from the usual pastels. Like I said, it's all about bright, vibrant colors. It's about bright eye shadows, bold, exaggerated eyeliners, under eye eyeliner and peach lips. Asian women come in many shades so I'll do color recommendations to pull of this spring's makeup trend by skin tone.

Fair/Light

Fair and light complexions are easy to work with because just about any color will work and show up on them. So for those of you with this complexion, it's all fair game so have fun! But go easy on the colors. It should be eyes or lips, too much color will just look overly done and tacky. I would recommend pinks. Bright pinks look amazing on those with a light complexion. I'd also recommend going think and bright with the eyeliner, maybe even trying the under eye eyeliner look if you're daring enough. For lips either go nude or a light peach shade.

Medium

For those with medium skin tone it takes a little more work in finding the right color. I sort of fall into this category depending on the season. I run from light to medium throughout the year. For lighter colors in terms of shadows, you'll want to go with bright colors in shadows that are highly pigmented so that it shows up the best on your skin. Don't forget that a good shadow primer really makes a difference. Try colors in the purple, blues and greens family, this goes for the eyeliner too. As for lips, if you want to try the peach lips trend look for lipsticks and glosses that are actually peach in color, or a orange-pink shade, depending on how dark your lips are.

Tan

If you have a tan to dark complexion you're going to want to get very highly pigmented shadows and bright eyeliners to really get the colors to pop, and of course use these products with a good shadow primer. Nothing ruins a good look quicker than creasing and fading. Just like for medium skin tones go for purples, blues and greens because those often compliment dark eyes and hair the best, and it shows up really well. As for lips, this really depends on your natural lip color because that will effect how the color shows up. To achieve the peach lips look, go for orange-pink shades and soft coral colors, something that isn't too orange or pink.

Spring makeup trends for 2010 can be pulled off by anyone no matter their skin tone, it's just a matter of knowing how to choose the right color to compliment your coloring. Spring is the one season where playing with colors is considered okay, so have fun with it and be bold!
