Spring 2010 Video Game Releases

Jennifer Amlie
Spring 2010 is the targeted release date for many eagerly awaited video games. In the months of April and May, we should see big name sequels and anticipated new titles hitting the shelves. This is a short list of the most promising second quarter video games.

Alan Wake
Gamers will play as Alan Wake, a frustrated writer who hasn't produced anything in years. His wife takes him to the town of Bright Falls in the hopes he will find his muse. When his wife mysteriously disappears, Alan is trapped in a nightmare world of his own creation. This psychology thriller video game has been in the making since 2005. It is suppose to be the first "season" of a bigger story. Alan Wake is a sandbox game with a day/night cycle, puzzles and missions. Like Heavy Rain, it seems to take games into a new and deeper dimension. It will be released on April 13th and it is an Xbox 360 exclusive. It is rated M.

Red Dead Redemption 2
Set in 1908, you play former outlaw, John Marston, as he travels the frontier trying to bring order and law. In the trailer, it is revealed that he has to capture or kill his former partner. The events in Red Dead Redemption 2 will lead up to the Mexican Revolution. The action/adventure game will feature prairies, towns, and mountains in a sandbox environment. There are trains and horses for traveling and over 30 animals to hunt. It is set to be released on April 27th and will be available for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It is rated M.

Lost Planet 2
This third person shooter takes place 10 years after the events of the first game. Much of the snow has melted leaving a more tropical environment in the sequel. Since the weather is warmer, players will not lose Thermal Energy as quickly. The war for T-ENG is still raging and players must battle the huge insects Akrids. The game will be split into six episodes, each featuring a different story and character. Each story and character will be brought together for the end of the game. There is a 16 multiplayer mode and a 4 player co-op mode. It will be available on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Lost Planet 2 is rated T and is set to release on May 18th.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands
This game reverts back to the popular storyline from the 2003 Sands of Time. The Forgotten Sands takes place between Sands and Warrior Within. The game starts with the Prince finding the royal palace under attack from an evil army. New features include the ability to customize the Prince's features and clothing. Returning game play features include puzzle solving and the Prince's acrobatics. It will be released in May and will be rated T. This game will be available for the PS3, PSP, Wii, DS, Xbox 360, and PC.

Left 4 Dead 2: The Passing
While it's not a whole new video game, this downloadable content for the popular zombie first person shooter is worth mentioning. Set in a small Georgia town, the new survivors met up with the original Left 4 Dead cast. The Passing is a full length mission between Dead Center and Dark Carnival of L4D2. The DLC also contains new content for a few of the different modes like Versus. It should be available in early spring for the Xbox 360.

These video games should be some of the most talked about upon their release. From thrillers and adventure to the Wild West, gamers will have a variety of choices. And remember that delays can happen and these release dates may change. Hopefully, this spring will be a busy one for gamers.

I've read this before but it reminded me of how much my husband is looking forward to Supreme Commander 2. It's about to drive him crazy. I still play NES Super Mario 3 with the kids lol--how pathetic is that?
