Spring Beverages: Shakes to Lift You Up

Cool and Refreshing Drinks

These are three refreshing and healthy drinks perfect for the spring.

Fresh Sunshine Shake

Ingredients:
2 c. orange juice
1 banana, cut into chunks
1 egg
1 tbsp. honey
Combine all ingredients in blender; blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
Makes 3 ½ cups.

Cantaloupe Cooler

Ingredients:
1 cup cubed cantaloupe
1 cup frozen unsweetened strawberries
1 cup green grapes
1/2 cup ice cubes
Artificial sweetener equivalent to 4 tsp sugar

Directions:
Place all ingredients in the order listed in a blender.
Cover and process until smooth.
Pour into glasses, serve immediately
Makes 4 servings.

Smoothie-Wake-Up Smoothie
Serves 3

Ingredients:
1 1/4 cups orange juice, preferably calcium-fortified
1 banana
1 1/4 cups frozen berries, such as raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and/or strawberries
1/2 cup low-fat silken tofu or low-fat plain yogurt

Directions:
Combine orange juice, banana, berries, tofu (or yogurt) and sugar (or Splenda), if using, in a blender; cover and blend until creamy. Serve immediately.
Yield: 3 servings
