Spring Break '75

James R. Ford
There we were, driving down U.S. 1, radio is playing the Eagles, Elton John. Singing along with the windows down, warm breeze in our faces. Riding in that 1971, banana colored, Mustang. Destination Fort Lauderdale beach.

It's spring and the college girls are in town for Spring Break. We wouldn't meet any, being the fact that we were just shy teenagers, discovering the curves and ambience of a woman.

As we passed people on Sunrise Boulevard, the radio continued playing ELO, some Floyd, and even a little Zep. Frank suggested beeping his horn at the first girls he saw, which he did, much to my embarrassment.

It was close to 9:30 and already, there were thousands of bodies walikng along the Strip. Many wore shirts of their home university. We saw a lot of Penn State, Ohio, and Maryland. Maryland never looked so beautiful.

All we did was cruise the strip, then turn around at Port Everglades, then we'd ride back on the beach side, only to turn around, and cruise the strip again. It never got boring. Many young students, dressed down for the warm weather of Fort Lauderdale.

After a time, we would head back home up A1A. Not a bad night. Beat watching prime time television or cooped up inside somewhere.
