Spring break is for the kids. Sure, adults get to have a vacation here and there; but it is usually accompanied by children if you are a parent. And if you aren't, you probably aren't hitting the hot spots for a week of anything goes anymore.
The thing is, I wouldn't want a week of anything goes even if I could have it. Growing up as a person, growing spiritually; I know that there is no break from being a person of character and high ideals.
Spring break means debauchery and drunkenness for a lot of people. To me it is just another week in my life. I no longer participate in some of the crazy things I did as a young adult. I no longer want to. There are no days off when it comes to being the person I am meant to be.
"Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the Lord. There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Listen, my son, and be wise, and keep your heart on the right path. Do not join those who drink too much wine and gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags." Proverbs 23:17-21
I do notice that it doesn't say not to drink, it says not to drink to the point of drunkenness. And to eat, but not to be a glutton. Moderation in all things is generally the message you find in the scripture. Moderation and timing.
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." Ecclesiastes 3:1
This is my time to make progress in my spiritual journey. This is the season for me to be renewed in the Word. There is a time for a former Baptist, former Pentecostal and non-practicing Catholic to find new strength and hope in the scripture.
Like my cousin said this morning, Jesus is still in the miracle business. Her friend asked, did he ever get out?
