Spring Break Destinations You Might Not Initially Consider

Consider Doing Something Different This Year!

Are you tired of the typical spring break locations. Been to Cancun? Feel like you've seen all the beaches in Florida? Is Myrtle Beach old hat and does the Carribean make you say been there, done that? Here are some different ideas that you might want to give a try.

1. Lake Havasu, Arizona - Here you will have the opportunity to party with other college students in a slightly different environment. In Lake Havasu, you can rent a boat to live on! During the day take part in activities like fishing, white water rafting, hiking, and mountain biking, enjoying the beautiful scenery surrounding the Colorado River. At night, it's easy to flit from boat party to boat party, or if you find yourself craving solid ground, there are abundant nightclubs in the area that you can visit.

2. Dublin, Ireland - Often students don't consider going abroad for spring break. Dublin is both an affordable destination, and a place where you can experience another culture without hoards of tourists cramping your style. If you cut expenses by staying in the popular youth hostels, you'll be sure to meet European college students on vacation, and in addition to soaking up local culture at the many museums, don't forget to soak up some of the local beer at the infamous Irish pubs.

3. Alaska - Although the bigger cruise lines don't start their Alaskan trips until May, some of the smaller companies offer combination land/sea trips as early as March. A stay in Anchorage is another option. It might not be the usual spring break warm sunny beach but there is a lot to see in our northernmost state.

4. Cape Cod, Massachusetts - Usually a summer vacation area, consider checking it out when it is a little less crowded. Ocean Edge Resort & Club is open year round and has a full range of activities including heated indoor swimming pools. Enjoy the quaint historic streets and natural beauty of the ocean coming inside to play when it gets too cold.

5. Joshua Tree National Park - This beautiful national park is located in the southeast corner of Southern California. The warm dry desert landscape is at its best in March and April, full of wildflowers and song birds. Spend your days hiking, rock climbing, and exploring the wilderness.

6. Amish Country - Just outside Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in Lancaster County you can experience a different culture right here in the U.S.A. Explore a world of horse and buggies, and one room school houses. The Amish in this area are use to tourists, and attractions include horse & buggy rides, touring an Amish home and farm, and plenty of shops!

7. New York City - Take in a Broadway show, enjoy museums and city shopping, and don't forget the active night life! The temps might not be tropical, but this city is hopping.

8. The Smoky Mountains - There is a lot to do the Smoky Mountain area in Tennessee. The beautiful scenery is scrumptious to enjoy while fishing, hiking, or horseback riding. Theme parks pepper the area and the many local artisans are often happy to show you their methods as well as sell you their wares.

9. Hershey, Pennsylvania - Most of us love chocolate, so why not vacation in the city made famous by it. Stay in Hotel Hershey, visit the Chocolate Spa, and take a guided tasting tour in Hershey's Chocolate World.

10. Quebec - Both Montreal and Quebec City are full of beautiful historic districts that are fun to explore. Places to ski, snowboard, or sled abound. Although it's not necessary to know French, if you are learning the language, it is an excellent chance to practice with a native speaking population.
