Spring Break Events in Tucson Arizona 2010

Spring Break in Tucson is from March 13-21, 2010. Below are some fun activities you can do in Tucson during Spring Break.

Saturday, March 13th & Sunday the 14th, 2010 is the Tucson Festival of Books on the University of Arizona campus mall (center court) and in the campus buildings, which are located west of Campbell Avenue between Speedway Blvd. and Sixth Street. This a huge event, as I went to it last year - the first year it took place. More than 400 well-known authors will be there to meet, sign books and give presentations. All of these authors' books are sold at this event. The children's section is fantastic - filled with books, on-going activities and with many well-known characters walking around such as Curious George, the Berenstein Bears and many others. Many local vendors will have tents up selling their products, including great food venues, such as Frost, which sells gelato. The event is from 10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. on both days. The festival is free and so is parking for it at the University of Arizona.

On Sunday, March 14, 2010 is the HITS Horse Shows In The Sun Arizona Desert Finals which are held at the Pima County Fairgrounds. Horse competitions start at 8:00 A.M. and although the show is to run until 4:00 P.M. most competitions end early. This is a very small showing and is good if you like horses. The Pima County Fairgrounds is located at 11300 S. Houghton Road, one mile from the I-10 exit. Enter the Fairgrounds through Brekke Road and once you're in the gate, make a right towards the horse barns. Competition is behind the barns.

Every day through April 30, 2010 you can visit the Tucson Botanical Gardens to see their Butterfly Magic at the Gardens Exhibit. Every month they feature a new species of butterflies from a different country. Exhibit hours are daily from 10:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M. and their garden hours are from 8:30 A.M.-4:30 P.M. Admission to everything is $12.00 - adults ages 13 and older; $4.00 for adult members; $6.50 for children ages 4-12;

Saturday, March 13th at 6:00 P.M. & Sunday March 14th, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. is The Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival, which is put on by the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music. Many of its members are international music artists. They will put on a concert and other presentations. The festival is at the Leo Rich Theater, which is located at 230 S. Arizona Theater Company is putting on a production of The Glass Menagerie on the following dates and times: March 13 at 4:00 P.M. & 8:00 P.M.; March 14 at 2:00 P.M.; March 17-18 at 2:00 P.M. & 7:30 P.M.; March 19 at 7:30 P.M.; and March 20 at 2:00 P.M. & 8:00 P.M. This Arizona Theatre Company production will be at the Temple of Music and Art, which is located at 330 S. Scott Avenue and their box office telephone number is: 520-622-2823. St. Francis Theatre is putting on a production of the Broadway musical, Godspell, on the following dates: March 12-13 at 7:30 P.M.; March 14 at 2:00 P.M.; March 19-20 at 7:30 P.M.; and March 21 at 2:00 P.M. On Sunday, March 14, 2010 is Tucson's St. Patrick's Day Parade and Festival. The parade starts at 11:00 A.M. at the corner of 14th Street and Stone Avenue and ends at the Festival at Armory Park which is located at 220 S. Sixth Avenue. The festival is from 10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. In the parade there will be marching bands, floats, entertainment, including features from local organizations. At the Festival there will be Irish music, dancers, games, food, exhibits and vendors. Admission to the festival is free.

From now until July 3, 2010, Andy Warhol's Portfolios: Life & Legends will be exhibited at the Tucson Museum of Art from 10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M. The Museum is located at 140 N. Main Avenue. From now through April 30, 2010, you can visit the DeGrazia Gallery In The Sun to see Ted DeGrazia's beautiful artwork - his paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry, etc. Featured this month for Easter is his "Way of The Cross" exhibit. On weekends from Saturday, March 13th-Sunday, March 28, 2010 the Renaissance Festival will be in Apache Junction Arizona, which is not far from Tucson; it's heading towards Phoenix. It is a big event for Arizona each year. There you will see music shows, comedy, vendors including food - everything associated with the Renaissance Era and more. The hours of the festival are from 10:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. Admission cost is: $20.00 - adults; $10.00 - children ages 5-12; and $17.00 - seniors. Usually Fry's Food Store offers discount tickets to the Festival as usually does the Tucson Entertainment book. The location of the festival is west of Florence Junction on US Highway 60. On Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 10:00 A.M.-11:30 A.M. is the University of Arizona's Historic Walking Tour which starts off at the U of A Visitor Center. By taking this tour you will learn about the University of Arizona's landmarks, history and traditions. Reservations are strongly suggested. The U of A's Visitor Center is located at: 811 N. On every Wednesday-Sunday you can visit the Jewish History Museum to see memorabilia of the early Jewish settlers in Arizona from 1:00P.M.-4:00 P.M. Admission fee is $5.00. The Museum is located at 564 S. Stone Avenue and their telephone number is: 520-670-9073.

From Friday, March 19-Sunday, March 21,2010 is our famous Fourth Avenue Street Fair. In Tucson we have this fair several time a year. It takes place along Fourth Avenue between University Boulevard and Ninth Street. Admission cost is free and the fair is from 9:00 A.M.-6:00 P.M. If you have any gift buying to do, including southwest souvenirs, this is the place to go. There will be many arts and crafts booths, food vendors, performance stages, street musicians and performers, food, jugglers, children's crafts including face painting and much more. Be prepared to be walking among a lot of people.

When it's a beautiful day in Tucson, outdoors is the place to be. The Tanque Verde Swap Meet is every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with hundreds of vendors selling many new and old items. There's even people selling fresh fruit. It's very common to see items from Mexico for sale here. The Swap Meet has many of its own food and snack bars, and a merry-go-round, jumping castle, little theater and rides for the children. The Swap Meet's hours are: Thursday & Friday: 3:00 P.M. -11:00 P.M.; and Saturday & Sunday: 7:00 A.M.-11:00 P.M. The Swap Meet is located at 4100 S. On Friday, March 19 & Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M. you can see Mexican pottery demonstrations along with pottery, jewelry and other items for sale at the Tucson Botanical Gardens. On Friday, March 19, 2010, you can participate in the Cowboys in the Rincon Valley, which is a 2-hour hike through the Rincon Valley led by a professional hiker. Everyone meets at the Saguaro National Park East's visitor center at 9:00 A.M. and hiking ends at 11:30 A.M. Wear comfortable hiking shoes, a hat and definitely bring water and a trail snack. On Saturday, March 20, 2010 you can go see WWE Raw Live (wrestling) at the Tucson Convention Center's Tucson Arena at 7:30 P.M. On Saturday, March 20, 2010 you can go hear The Vienna Boys Choir in the U of A Centennial Hall at 8:00 P.M. Centennial Hall is located at 1020 E. On Saturday, March 20th & Sunday, March 21, 2010 Davis Monthan Air Force Base is presenting their Aerospace & Arizona Days air show. Gates open at 8:00 A.M. and will close at 2:00 P.M. each day. Admission to the air show is free but they are asking everyone to please bring a can of food to support Tucson's Community Food Bank. Parking is free on the base and the way you enter is through the Swan and Craycroft Gates off of Golf Links. Since parking will be very far from the grounds of the air show they are encouraging people to take the shuttle to the air show which leaves from these 2 areas of Tucson: Park Place Mall located at 5870 East Broadway Blvd. (enter from Wilmot at Park Place Drive and follow signs to the lot); and El Pueblo Nighborhood Center located at 101 West Irvington Road on the southwest corner of Irvington Road and 6th Avenue/Nogales Highway (enter from 6th Avenue/Nogales Highway and park in the south lot). Shuttles run continuously to the base from 8:00 A.M.-2:00 P.M. and the round trip fee is $2.50 - cash only. The fare for seniors 65 and older, people with disabilities, and Medicare card holders is $1.25. Children ages 5 and under ride free.
