Spring Decorating a Beautiful Mini Pond

When starting your mini pond, the first thing is to make it almost maintenance free. When starting your mini pond you will want to know what shape and size you want your pond. A mini pond does not have to be deep. I would suggest making it at least two feet deep. Dig out the shape of your pond first and then dig it out to the depth you wish it to be. Once you have done this you want to get a filter so it will keep your pond water clear. Designing a small waterfall in the middle of your pond, using a water pump, will keep the water in your pond moving. This will keep oxygen in the water and also keep the water circulating.

First off before installing your water fall and pump, you will want to lay a rubber black tarp in the bottom of your pond. Let this tarp overlap so weeds cannot grow around your pond. Then you may install your waterfall and pump. Fill your pond with water.

There are many ways you can decorate your pond. Put decorative small tress, flowers, or even bushes around your pond. Cut small holes in the tarp before planting your trees, flowers, or bushes. This will eliminate weeds growing up and giving you that messy look to your pond. Once you are done planting you may lay topsoil or decorative stone around your trees, flowers, or bushes. You may even use colored bark.

To really make your pond different you may purchase two dolls, a boy, and a girl. You may get these at Hobby Lobby or any craft store. If you want to really go all out, order your dolls. Make sure you get dolls that can be stuck in the ground to keep them from falling over. Stand the boy doll up at your pond close to the water and then place the girl doll next to the boy doll. Try and make it so the girl dolls head is resting on the boy dolls shoulder. Get a stick and tie fishing string on the end of it with a sinker, set the boy doll up so he is holding the homemade fishing pole. Toss the fishing line in the water and it will look like the boy doll is fishing. This is very cute. You may use regular dolls, although, it would be best to bring them in if it is going to rain. You may also use porcelain dolls.

If you are creative with wood or even know someone who is, you may yourself, or have someone build you a small wooden boat with two benches. Place your boy and girl doll on each bench. You may wish to have oars so you can make it look like the boy doll is rowing. Another idea is to have the boy doll fishing off the boat with the homemade fishing pole you have made. You may also place live gold fish or coi fish in your pond. To give your pond a beautiful glow at night, try adding black lights around the pond.

To decorate around your pond more, you may use ceramic frogs, rabbits, dogs, or even cats. Use your imagination. These materials for your pond may be purchased at the Home Depot or Lowe's. These items will not cost all that much and you can use these items over and over again. If you live where you have winter months, you will want to plant all trees, flowers, and bushes that grow annually, which means they will grow every year. Even if you live in the south, it is always best to buy these items that grow annually to save you time and money from replanting after fall and winter months.
