Window Treatments
Rather than making a single pair of window treatments, choose two co-ordinating fabrics and back them against each other for a reversible drapery. You can make them with a simple rod pocket and gather them on a decorative wooden pole. You could have a pretty floral pattern on one side, and perhaps a more muted darker look on the other. To change with the seasons, you only have to lift it from its brackets, and reverse the entire drapery around. Make two sets of tailored tie-backs for each fabric so that you can switch them with the seasons.
Bed
You are going to be using the same fabrics here that you used for the window treatments. First, make a headboard slipcover in the fabric you choose. Cover the headboard with the opposite fabric. The bed will be transformed when the slipcover is removed, depending on what seasonal fabric you have chosen for each step. The other option is to make a padded headboard reversible. This way you only have to flip the headboard around when it is time to "redecorate". The Do It Yourself Network has a very easy "recipe" for making your own headboard.
The duvet can be made with one of your fabrics, and a slipcover made in your opposite fabric. Again, when the seasons change, so does the look of your bedding! Click here to see a how-to of slipcover making.
You can also make a series of decorative pillows in your chosen fabrics. You can mix and match them for contrast, or leave one kind of pillow on your bed. The versatility choices are up to you.
Bench
Add a bench to your room for additional storage or for a new look. You can complement your fabric choices by making your bench seat reversible as well. You simply want to have the seat upholstered in one fabric, and a slipcover for the other. The benches themselves can be purchased at any major home center such as Home Depot, Lowe's, or even at Target or Wal-Mart. You only need to buy the fabric additionally. You can have the seat upholstered professionally, or check out the Do It Yourself Network for full instructions.
Stage the Room
This is what they call it in the design shows. What you are simply doing here is adding a few finishing touches for a completed look. Make sure you place some garden magazines or flower books in your nightstand to give you the "spring" feeling. You also want to remove any silk arrangements you have and replace them with fresh flowers as often as you can. There is nothing more spring than fresh flowers. Now is also a great time to de-clutter your shelves and make the look as light and airy as possible. If you have floor mats, spring is a great season to roll them up and feel the coolness of your floors under your feet.
And there you have it. These touches are as simple as you want to make them. You don't have to implement each touch into your design, but the ideas are a great starting point. It can be as easy enough as adding fresh flowers to spring up a room. These reversibility options however will give you a comprehensive look that will be easy to change on a seasonal basis. Once you have the basic furnishings created, it will not take you more than a few minutes to freshen up your look each season.
