Some Lovely Ideas for Decorating Your Home in a Lean Year

TheSeeker
Spring is a wonderful time of the year. Everything is coming back awake after a long slumber over the winter months. Many people slow down during the winter months and put things off till spring. One of those things is the annual house cleaning adventure that most of us do each and every year. We dust our homes, wash and air out our blankets and other fabrics and numerous other little jobs that just seem like too much work during the winter months. Another custom many people have during the spring months is a spring decorating tradition. It is sometimes elaborate and sometimes simple. But each and every one of us are unique and through our decorating traditions our uniqueness is expressed. Here are some of the things I have done in my spring decorating tradition:

Almost every year after cleaning I buy some ferns. Ferns are a lovely household plants and many of them can do with a minimal amount of sunlight. They are easy to take care of and give even the blandest room an outdoorsy feel that will cheer you up in a United States minute. I prefer a combination of dense ferns and loose runny ferns in the same room to provide contrasts to one another and give the area a more natural and wild feel to it. The cheap indoor water art pieces you can buy now add to the environmental feel of the room as well.
While it is another responsibility, a song bird can brighten up a dull house with beautiful chirps and their active personalities. Make sure you get two so your new pet will have a friend to pal around with.

I always bring out the tablecloths with flower patterns on them and vases to put flower cuttings and fruit bowls to display fresh fruits in. These two simple things will give your dining table a spring feel to it that is undeniable. Spring decorating could not be any easier than this.

In the bedroom I always try to give it coastline feel. I have painted the entire room with a coastline scene and added a couple indoors trees and a sitting table like the ones you find on the beach. I have a good quality boom box with many different natural sounds Cd's to select from and usually play one with ocean sounds for a couple hours before bedtime.

Spring time is a good time to do some painting in your house and spring colors are the best. Blues and greens and neutral tones are the best spring decorating colors in my opinion. Add a sun lamp in your newly painted room and you have something amazing.

In my kitchen I have a nice window and in that window I always put a sweet potato in a vase and cover it with water and let the vines grow up and around the room throughout the spring and summer months. You can't get any cheaper than that and it adds greenery to your kitchen. Or if you prefer a more practical decoration create yourself a small herb garden in your window and enjoy some fresh herbs all spring and summer long.

Above all spring is a time to throw open the curtains and let some light in your home. Many people are concerned about heat retention and UV exposure but there are films you can put on your windows that will let light in but keep harmful sun rays out and cut down on electrical bills. And more natural light means less electricity used to artificially light your home as well.

I hope you see now home spring decorating can be for all of us and not just the middle class and upper echelons of our community.
