Spring Festivals & Events in Anne Arundel County, Maryland

Spring has come - and with it has come many wonderful outdoor activities for you and your family living in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Anne Arundel County has quite the extensive calendar of activities and events available so that you should never have to question "what should I or we do?" - and no need to feeling the pain of driving far to attend events & festivals outside of Anne Arundel County.

A big hit this time of year is the Towsontown Spring Festival. It usually runs the first weekend of May. Townsontown Spring Festival includes petting farms, live music, pony rides, moon bounces, carnival games, and more. Best of all the event is FREE! For more information on Towsontown you can email their chamber at info@towsonchamber.com.

Another fun event in Anne Arundel County is the annual spring craft fair at Downs park. The fair has local vendors from though out Anne Arundel County displaying their homemade goods or food. Down's park also has free admission on the day of the craft fair. If you're really looking for an even bigger craft fair, the Anne Arundel County craft show is usually the last weekend of April (April 24-April 25, 2010) at the Anne Arundel fair grounds. There are more than 100 vendors including photographers, florists, and ceramics. There will also be a "Cutest Kid" competition and a "teen idol" competition.

Are you a fellow German-American or are you just interested in learning more about the German-American culture? A huge blast every year is the German-American Festival, (May 2, 2010) the first weekend of May. The festival is located at Blob's park, in Jessup (Western Anne Arundel County). The festival includes German-cultural dancers, German food, German clowns, and a German reenactment group.

In addition to the festivals I mentioned - another wonderful time about this part of the year in Anne Arundel County is that the local Farmers markets start back up! The Severna Park Farmers market meets on Saturdays from 8am - noon on route 2 & Jones Station Road. The Piney Orchard Farmers Market meets on Wednesday afternoons from 2pm until 6:30pm and is located in Odenton on Stream Valley Drive right off the 170. Local Farmer's markets not only provide a wonderful way to support your local farmers and businesses, as well as purchasing local produce - but they include great events such as live music and performances, auctions, etc.

Whether you chose to deepen your knowledge of the German-Americans, support your local farmers, or purchase crafts at the Down's Park Craft Show or the Anne Arundel County Craft Show - I highly recommend checking out the local spring events and festivals that Anne Arundel County has to offer!
