Spring Fling 2010 in Danville, PA

Family-Oriented Free Fun at Spring Fling, May 1, 2010

Ranee Wright
The Spring Fling in Danville, PA is held annually on the first Saturday in May. Hopefully, April showers bring May flowers but the show goes on, even in the rain. Historically, over 150 vendors offer a variety of food/drinks and a plethora of crafts. They set up shop under canopies; even so, bring an umbrella in case the weather doesn't cooperate.

The 24th annual Spring Fling will take place on May 1, 2010. It is held along Mill, Lower Mulberry and East and West Mahoning Streets in downtown Danville, PA. These streets will be closed off to traffic. The fun begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m.

Danville's 2010 Spring Fling will begin with the 3rd Annual River Towns Marathon and Half Marathon. For more information, go to www.rivertownrace.com

A variety of live entertainment will be available and parking is free in honor of the family-friendly event. Local dance studios usually showcase jazz and ballet performances along with local Tae Kwon Do teams and live bands.

Many downtown Danville restaurants and stores will stay open for the Spring Fling. Non-profits offer food and information to raise awareness for their cause. I love the variety of German roasted almonds available at the event.

Unique crafts created from residents of Danville, PA and surrounding communities will be available. In the past, Christ Memorial Episcopal Church has sold jewelry that was made in African villages, the sales benefit those villages.

Just off the main drag, Pine Street Lutheran Church historically has provided a rest area and a baby changing station.

The Spring Fling in Danville attracts thousands of visitors to the small northeast borough. For information on becoming a vendor, click here. Read Vendor Rules & Instructions here.
