Spring is a Four-Leaf Clover

...Looking For Meaning in Spring Morning Dew

Charity
I went searching for a four-leaf clover early one Spring Day morn.
I guess I'd say I felt rather lucky, because it was the month in which I was born.
As I walked through the grass, the dew sprayed up and awakened my sleepy heels.
(I suspect until a person walks barefoot through the dew they've never really lived.)

Suddenly I spotted a small weak flower hiding magically out in plain view.
I unearthed the leaf that was holding it down, and it seemed to sway "thank you"
With straightened stems and uplifted petals that turned to greet the sun.
When I saw it standing now tall and erect, I was proud of what I had done.

I continued on, stooping and searching, keeping my eyes on the ground,
But ever so often I would straighten up, give pause, and just look around.
I saw where I'd been, I looked where I was going, and took note of where I was.
So that traveling along in this simple fashion, I hardly risked getting lost.

Then right before my searching eyes movement occurred on the ground.
Dropping to my knees helped me to see... he was struggling, thrashing around.
I turned him over and filled with joy as he quickly scrambled to leave,
And as he crawled away free, I'd almost swear, I think the bug smiled at me.

I went on my way, never stopped searching, only pausing to render some help,
Simply because my inner child counseled "this is the way" to help yourself.
Now I've realized and I'm not surprised that I may not find my clover...
But it's seeking and hoping that makes it worth while, until this season is over.
