Spring Hairstyles and Makeup Trends

The term haute couture literally means "high sewing," and represents the houses that create exclusive fashions. Though haute couture is not always in the taste of the mainstream audience, its fashion shows do produce a level of seduction with strong colors, wild hair and extreme makeup. Each season offers innovative styles and, during the spring 2011 haute couture fashion shows, there were several designers that caused head to turn. These were styles you may not wear in daily life, but were eye catching and creative.

Christian Dior is ablaze

Christian Dior's 2011 spring line was a contrast with strong red and black innovations, along with creations in soft beige and blue. The fashions were memorable but red lips could be seen throughout the entire show. The blazing red lipstick in high gloss was hard to miss on each model. What was more striking? Fully shaped and sculpted, smoldering red eyebrows. Not all models wore the red brows but it created a very distinct style among those who did.

You may already have a shade of red lipstick in your makeup selection, but red eyebrows will have to be dyed or drawn in. Do be careful not to get the dye in your eyes.

Jean Paul Gaultier's "Mad Max" look

Red lips graced Jean Paul Gaultier's designs also, but the hairstyles were big, loud and very, very early-'80s. The super high mohawks, faux hawks and corn rows looked as if they should be representing a scene from the "Mad Max" movies. In some cases, the hairstyles were combined and created very intriguing and highly polished fashion statements.

Egg whites, Elmer's glue and commercial hair products such as gel and hair spray can hold your mohawk in place.

Maison Rabih Kayrouz's hard lines

Sleek, side splitting and middle parted hair in Maison Rabih Kayrouz's runway show were a drastic change from the house of Dior and Gaultier. The style was simple and oddly harsh. The pulled back hair was pin straight and sleek. The hard lines of the hairstyle work well with the minimalist makeup. Gold, bronze and beige tones brought a softer approach to the perfectly coiffed cheveux.

To get that rigid side or mid part in your hair, use a fine tooth comb or a comb with a dividing tip. This tool will create that sharp contrast needed to create your part.
