Spring Has Sprung, at Will Rogers Park, Oklahoma City!

A Pictorial Look at Okc's Hidden Paradise

Alisha
Spring has sprung at the Will Rogers Park in Oklahoma City; it's one of my favorite seasons there. Buds have bloomed, or are about to, the animals are starting to act like their old selves, and it is a springtime folly in Mother Nature's world. If you aren't familiar with Will Rogers Park and HorticulturalGardens, it is in North Okc, at 36th & Grand. It has a little bit of everything for the family. Few people know it use to be a dairy farm sometime prior to 1912, when the City purchased the land. The gardens rock arbors, lake and overlooks were built in the 1930s.

In the park you will find the Garden Exhibition Center. The Oklahoma City Council of Garden Clubs is heavily involved in making this center a place of beauty and education. The Ed Lycan Conservatory boasts one of the largest cacti and succulent collections in the world. While outside is a colorful wonderland of over 100 rose varieties, iris's, azaleas, lilies and more! Coming up in May, you can see over 3000 vividly colored roses in full bloom, they usually bloom until October. These rose gardens can be rented, for weddings and receptions. I can't imagine anything more beautiful than a bride standing amongst the 2 acres of roses!

Will Rogers Park Arboretum hosts native trees to Oklahoma, oaks, junipers, crab apples, crap myrtle, and redbuds. Some tower and shade the arboretum; and have for many years. The Squirrels are thriving here. One let me walk right up on him while I was there, had I moved my camera, he would have ran, so I just enjoyed the moment between he and I. A bit of animal fact I picked up from a television show, is a squirrel has the ability to recall thousands of hiding holes, where he's stores nuts. I can't even keep up with my purse, and this little fellow can do all that!

The open knolls are set up for Disc golf, there are usually a few people playing, I've never seen it packed though, the hills, ravines, and trees make it a scenic place to play.

In the summer the full featured aquatic center swimming pool opens; swimming lessons are offered for children.

Don't miss this golden opportunity to see spring bursting forth in one of the loveliest settings in the City!
