Spring Herb Garden Crafts for Seniors and Toddlers

Ann Siper
This spring herb garden craft is a fun art project for seniors and toddlers to make together. Seniors and toddlers can make this fun garden craft using materials leftover from other project and home improvement jobs.

Your seniors will be able to make this fun spring herb garden project with your toddler and display their hard work in the grade.

To make this spring herb garden craft your seniors and toddlers will needle

Terra cotta pots

Stones or broken tiles

Tile Glue

Grout is optional

Herbs

Soil

To get started you need one terra cotta pot for each herb you will be planting. You can also make one large pot and house all the herbs in the same pot. This is a great craft because toddlers can be introduced to spelling, different herbs, smells, and foods used to cook with them.

Have your seniors and toddler start painting out some stones from the yard in colors. They will want ot use at least two colors. Make sure they paint enough stones in one color to spell out their herb name on the pot.

Let the paints dry.

Now, take your clean terra cotta pot and start covering it with the painted stones or tile. It is a good idea fo them to write the name of the herbs on the side of the pot with a pencil or marker.

Now, start gluing in the stones to spell out the name. Hot glue is not a god option here. Once the name of the herb is spelled out then they can fill in the rest of the pot with the other painted stones.

Broken tiles or sea glass also work well here. Allow the glue to set and dry over night. They can grout if they wish or leave a is. If they grout then they will have to wipe always any excess, which can be time consuming and tiring, so they may want some help here.

Now for the really fin part. Planting the herbs is a great activity for kid san seniors because they learn how to plant something, but they also get to learn how to care for their plant. Herbs that grow well with little care are basil and mint. Mint seems to thrive in a pot no matter what you do.

Once the herbs have been planted then they can be placed in a sunny window, out on the porch, or veen on the front steps for everyone to see. You seniors and toddler can enjoy this craft all summer long as they watch their plants grow and care for them together.
