Spring Makeup 2010

Laura Leiva
With springtime upon us, it is time to start getting rid of the heavy and dark makeup colors of winter. One of the top spring makeup trends are lighter, more vibrant colors of lip gloss, eye shadow and nail polish.

After browsing the beauty aisle at Target, I decided to try the Maybelline New York ShineSensational Lip Gloss. Lip gloss is always perfect for spring, because the subtle color combined with sheen creates a light and youthful look. Lip gloss, with a sweep of foundation and mascara is an easy beauty routine that looks light and fresh, which is perfect for the spring months.

The ShineSensational line features a variety of colors for any skin tone, including corals, pinks, plums, reds and natural hues. I chose Peach Sorbet, since I was going for a scent and color that was the essence of spring. I have many lip glosses, most of which are sticky, too heavy on color and not enough shine. Once home, I applied the ShineSensational lip gloss, and was pleasantly surprised. The scent was subtle, but enough to make me notice the gentle peach taste and fragrance. The biggest surprise of all was that the gloss was shiny, and not sticky. With the dryness of winter, lip glosses often sit on the top of the lips and rub off throughout the day. My Peach Sorbet lip gloss was moisturizing and light on the lips. The Maybelline lip gloss collection is filled with delicious sounding glosses including Sparkling Grape, Glamorous Guava, Cherry Kiss and Tempting Toffee just to name a few. These colorful and shiny glosses are a must have for any spring makeup routine.

To keep your makeup spring-perfect, use a lightweight foundation or tinted moisturizer, and forgo heavy lipsticks in favor of lip gloss. During the day, keep eyes soft looking with a shimmery eye shadow powder and a light coat of mascara.

A second new product that had me wondering was the Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Eraser Treatment Foundation Makeup. The bottle is unusual, since there is a pom-pom type applicator that is effective in applying foundation to the face in order to "erase" fine lines and wrinkles, as well as improve the appearance of the skin with the additional ingredients of Goji Berry and Collagen.

To use the foundation, you simply twist the applicator so that foundation flows out of the sponge, ready to be applied to the face. Gently run the applicator sponge over the entire face, being sure to rub in around the hairline and jaw to blend thoroughly. Each of these products are easily found in retail and drugstores, as well as beauty retail chains. For beauty on a budget, each of these items are under $10.
