Spring Makeup Inspiration from the Golden Globes

Amanda Furbeck
Our dark toned, mauvey-brown makeup, which once upon a time felt warm and exciting, is starting to seem a bit drab and dreary as the winter blues creep into our daily existence. It's time to usher in an early spring and let thoughts of sunny days and beautiful blooms take root in our makeup bag. Get ready to update your makeup for spring with these fresh looks and ideas straight from the red carpet and the Golden Globes. Fresh faces, red and pink lips, and lush lashes were all buzzwords from the Golden Globes that we can carry into spring.
For starters, beautiful skin is always in. Make sure you are taking excellent care of your skin: cleanse morning and night, exofliate when needed and don't forget the moisturizer! Add in acne and age fighting products as needed, and see a dermatologist for any persistent issues or unusual skin spots.

Fresh faces ruled the red carpet as stars showed off their beautiful skin. Avoid heavy weighted foundations, and opt for lighter versions which let your skin show through. Disguise discolorations or blemish spots with a waterproof concealer in a shade that matches your skin tone. Don't forget a lightweight, mattifying foundation primer to smooth fine lines, prevent too much shininess, and help your makeup last all day.

Lovely lips spoke volumes on the red carpet and certainly got their time in the spotlight. Shades of corally red, soft pink, and pale coral remind us of sunny days ahead. Find a pastel version that coordinates with your skin tone, and dot a clear gloss on the center to add a little touch of poutiness to your lips, For a more defined lip, outline with a soft, neutral lip liner. Fill in lips to help your lipstick last and last. Give your lips center stage by keeping the rest of your making soft and fresh. Swirl a bit of a sheer blush that coordinates with your lipstick color on the apples of your cheeks for a youthful, soft glow.

The eyes on the red carpet were simple and understated, giving us a not-so-subtle hint that last seasons harsh, metallic, over-the-top shadows are oh-so last season. Give them a rest (don't worry, they'll be back again someday!) and instead, sweep a neutral shadow on lids with a bit of liquid liner as close to your lash line as possible. Make your lashes as lush as possible with a volumizing mascara, or for a night out, false eyelashes. For the brave (and those with deep wallets) eyelash extensions are a beautiful addition to anyone's peepers.

Naturally, you should wear your makeup in a way that makes you feel good when you look in the mirror, even if it isn't the latest trend or the newest product. But change is good, and it never hurts to experiment a bit. The red carpet is always a great source of inspiration and clue to what's coming in the seasons ahead. So practice, play, and feel beautiful!
