Spring Makeup Trend: Roses and Gold
Rosy Golden Hues Complement New York's Earthy Palette for Spring 2011
Rose Gold Eyes for Spring/Summer 2011
This season eyes look sultry with the light smoky effect that rosy, golden hues create. You can use a gold eyeshadow as a brow highlighter with a rosy/mauve eyeshadow trio to accent the eyes for a bolder look. For a more neutral, slightly smoky eye try mixing a gold eyeshadow primer like Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Greed ($18.00) with a rose eyeshadow quad like L'Oreal's Wear Infinite Made for Me Naturals Eye Shadow Quad in Rose Fields ($7.15).
Create the Look: Apply the Primer Potion in Greed to the entire lid and brow bone. Wait a minute and apply the rose shade (upper right corner of shadow quad) across entire lid. Next use the deeper rose shade from the crease up to the brow bone. Take an angled brush or clean applicator sponge and use the deepest shade as a liner. Slightly smudge it at the lower lash line to create a smoky eye. If you want, you can use the lightest shade to highlight the brow or let the primer serve as a highlighter.
Gilded, Rosy Cheeks for a Luminous Spring/Summer Glow
Lightly flushed cheeks are always fresh for spring. However, adding a touch of gold to the mix gives your light flush a luminous kick. You can look for golden peach or golden pink blush that matches your skin tone and provide a slight shimmer for spring. However, you may want to up the ante once summer rolls around by mixing a rosy cheek with golden face powder like Stila's Cheek Color Duo in Bronze/Rose ($24) and Bare Escentuals Brilliant Gold Beauty Duo ($29.50).
Create the Look: Apply the Stila Bronze/Rose cheek color to your cheeks. Then apply the Brightening Gold Mineral Veil from the Gold Beauty Duo over the blush. For a more gilded tone, apply the golden Mineral Veil to the entire face.
Rosy Gold Lips Create a Sexy Pout in Spring/Summer 2011
The sexy rose gold pout is not as deep as the eye color shades of the season. Gilded rose lip color is mainly a rose shade with a golden shimmer added to it such as Urban Decay's Lip Junkie Lip Gloss in Midnight Cowboy ($19.00). If you prefer a deeper rose gold shade for spring and summer mixing a deep rose lipstick with a gold gloss just may do the trick.
Create the Look: Apply a dusty rose or mauve lipstick to your lips. Then either using a lip wand or lip brush, apply a sheer, gold lip gloss over your lipstick. You can leave the look as is or blend the colors together using your finger or by smearing your lips together.
Spring's rose gold makeup trend is flattering to almost every face. It is a great look to wear with the white fashion trend or the earthy tones used by New York designers Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan and Michael Kors for spring 2011. Since this look is a neutral tone it can work with almost any fashion color you decide to wear. So play around and choose the rose gold combinations that work best for you.
