Spring to Summer Festivals in Indiana

Get ready for a full summer of fun at the festivals and fairs of Indiana, including Indianapolis 500, Amish Country Quilt Gardens Tour, Indiana State Fair and the Ligonier Marshmallow Festival. Festivals are a wonderful way to spend the day with friends and family, with entertainment, creative ideas on display and food.

Indianapolis 500

The Indianapolis 500 festivities begin on Friday, May with the Centennial Era Balloon Festival and culminate with Indianapolis 500 Race on May 24. According to information on the Indianapolis 500 website, the inaugural race was in 1911 and is steeped in traditions, Some of the most popular events during the celebration include the 500 Festival Parade, Balloon release, Borg-Warner Trophy, "Back Home Again in Indiana," Bump Day, Carb Day, Gasoline Alley, Pace Car, Pagoda, The Greatest Spectacle in racing, The Yard of Bricks, Winner's Drink of Milk, Winner's Wreath and yellow Shirts. Amish Country Northern Indiana Quilt Gardens Tour May 28 - June 3

The Quilt Gardens Tour features 16 official gardens with splendid patterns and designs. The Quilts Gardens Tour combines the patterns of quilts with garden design. This patchwork event is sewn across seven communities throughout Elkhart County. Free event.

Indiana State Fair August 7-23

The Indiana State Fair is situated on over 250 acres, with 17 buildings and nearly 100 people on staff. Some of the big name entertainers who will perform at the Indiana State Fair this year include Kelly Clarkson, Keith Urban, MercyMe, Jeremy Camp, Sandi Patty & the ISO. The newly created "Indiana MusicFest put in three bit Hoosier act; The Elms, Jon McLaughlin and The Why Store. The fair's kids' concert will feature Disney's newest sensation, Demi Lovato, who performs on August 10.

The fair is nationally known for their livestock shows, Little Hands of the Farm T, Pioneer Village, and a variety of food.The Indiana State Fair is the largest multi-day event in the state, attracting over 840,000 people every year. This year the fair offers three weekends of fun as it celebrates the Year of Tomatoes, which is presented by Red Gold. Admission is $8 at the gate. Indianapolis, IN.

Ligonier Marshmallow Festival August 28 - September 1

The 17th Annual Marshmallow Festival is themed Legends of Ligonier. The festival features a parade, games, concessions, games, bingo, midway rides and marshmallows! Ligonier, IN
