Having a beautiful lawn doesn't have to be hard to get. A healthy lawn can help fight off weeds and we are all about natural ways of fighting of weeds. a Weed seed needs space to grow and soil. If you have large area of exposed soil, weeds are the first to start growing, so work to avoid this.
Follow these simple steps for a beautiful lawn:
1. Power Rake the Lawn
2. Apply Lime- Lime helps control moss grow naturally
3. Aerate the Lawn. The machine punches little holes into the lawn.
4. Apply Sand
5. Over seed
6. Fertilize the lawn
When to use the Power Rake
1. When the lawn is fairy dry. You do not want to make a mud pie out of your lawn.
2. Then you will need to Rake all the dead Thatch
Aerating in the Spring
1. This is the prefect time to Aerate your lawn, Spring.
2. This process improves the Drainage for your lawn, allowing the water and oxygen to reach the roots. Coring improves the root growth of your lawn. for the best results core 2 to 3 inches deep. Drainage is important to help moss from growing by access water not lingering on your lawn to feed the moss.
3. Then time to help even out the lawn and keep the drainage there by using sand.
4. Spread seed to quickly refresh the lawn and it's look. New growth gives your lawn fresh life and color.
Moss grows best in acidic conditions, pH 5.5. Limestone or dolomitic lime would alkalinize & perhaps get rid of the moss. Here in the North West, fighting Moss is a never ending battle. Another treatment for moss is using Vinegar. Spray Vinegar on the moss on hot days. There are many home made weed treatments that use Vinegar. The drainage and the line is important.
