Springhill Suites in Elmhurst, Illinois.....small Town Charm, Big City Convenience

Susan Pettrone
After a long, busy spring semester, our family was feeling the stress of end of the year programs, field trips, parties, final grades and those last minute projects. Hubby and I talked it over and decided to begin our summer with a family trip to Chicago to treat the kids to some museums, sights and just plain relax. Deciding where to go was the easy part. But deciding where to stay was difficult to say the least!

There are so many choices out there! Did we want to stay downtown?....how about in a suburb?....and if we decided to stay away from Chicago, which was the best town to stay in and after that, WHERE to stay!?! After much debate, discussion and research, we decided to stay in the Elmhurst/Oakbrook area and we narrowed our choices of places to stay to the SPRINGHILL SUITES by Marriott in Elmhurst.

Upon arriving at our hotel we were pleasantly surprised at the friendliness of the staff on site. In fact, throughout our 3 day stay we were always greeted pleasantly and were asked repeatedly if there were anything we needed or required to make our stay more enjoyable.

The room we were given was obviously a suite, with two rooms consisting of one room with two double beds and the other room which was outfitted with a fold out couch, a small kitchenette and desk. We were told there was internet access available as well throughout, but as neither of us brought our laptops on this trip, I cannot honestly say how the connection was at this motel.

The rooms were clean and neatly made and it became obvious to us as we visited that the motel was participating in "Project Planet"

whose intentions were stated on a sign saying "we invite you to join with us to conserve water by using your towels more than once. In addition to decreasing water and energy consumption, you help us reduce the amount of detergent waste water that must be recycled within our community......" This also included not changing bed sheets everyday as is the custom in many hotels and motels. It seemed to be a reasonable request and we complied to do our part to eliminate excess waste.

The room was reasonably priced though I would suggest that those interested in getting the best rate possible, not only check the website but call the reservation number as well as when we called, we were quoted a better price than that which was online. The room comes with breakfast/brunch every morning and I have to say that the women who ran this part of the motel did a fantastic job! They not only keep on top of the rush of people with smiles on their faces and cheery greetings, but they knew after the first day that my oldest was a "frosted flakes" fan and made sure he had his daily supply before leaving the motel.

The Courtesy Shuttle took us to the Metra train station every day of our visit and picked us up as well. They were friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful when it came to learning more about the area and how to get around. This motel is fortunate to have such employees and should commend them for a job well done! In fact, I whole heartedly recommend this motel to anyone visiting the Chicago area in the future. We will be returning very soon to stay there again.
