Springtime and Tornados: How to Prepare

Sunshine Red
Springtime is a volatile time of year for weather. While it's the best season of the year, it's also the time of year that most of the tornado hit throughout the United States. There are very few areas that are safe from tornados. While there is a tornado alley that most of the tornados hit yearly its not the only active place that tornados will hit. The scariest thing about tornados is that they are basically still unpredictable. There is major progress with predicting where these will hit there often isn't much notice of when it will hit an area if it will hit the area. Unlike hurricanes which can be followed and given a path days in advance, tornados are produced by storms that can be fast moving and hard to predict where a funnel cloud will appear.

If there is a Tornado Watch, this means that conditions are right, and a tornado could form in these conditions. There hasn't been a tornado spotted, but it could happen. If they are calling a Tornado Warning, this is serious. It means that a tornado has been spotted in the area, it may or may not be still there, this is when you need to take cover, and get to safety.

Weather Radios are one way to keep up to date with bad weather. Every home should have one that is battery operated for emergencies. The weather radio will update you when there is a threat of bad weather in your area, while television channels will do this with Emergency Broadcasts break-ins during your shows, sometimes if you are watching a cable channel you may not get the notice of bad weather when you need it. The weather radio will be there and advise you of the weather conditions.

Have an emergency plan for your family. Know where to go in case of bad weather before the storms come through the area. If you live in a mobile home you will need to really watch the weather and prepare to get out of the mobile home if a tornado is near or spotted. Take your weather radio with you when you go to safety this way you will know the current conditions at all times.

Preparing for the worst and hoping for the best is the only way to be with unpredictable springtime weather. While tornados can happen anytime of the year springtime is when there is more than any other time of year. Here is an article that will show you how to prepare for any natural disaster.
