Sprint's New 4G Phone is a Powerful New Smart Phone Worth Considering

Sprint's latest smart phone is the HTC Evo 4G. The HTC Evo was previously known as the "Supersonic." The latest version of the HTC Evo was launched June 4, 2010 and provides the fastest service available for any smart phone.

Sprint's HTC Evo runs 4G technology, which means ten times the speed of 3G. Some of the key features of the HTC Evo are 1 GHz processor, Android operating system, a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a dual video and still camera, kick-stand for media viewing, a port to connect to HD television, can act as a stand-alone WiFi hotspot, and has HTC Sense to customize the phone.

The HTC Evo is a legitimate contender to Apple's 4G iPhone. It uses Google's Android operating system and boasts 35,000 apps that include pre-loaded access to Google Goggles, Maps, Voice, and Buzz.

On June 20, 2010 Gary Krakow of Financially Fit rated Sprint's HTC Evo as the number one Android phone.

Popular Science wrote of the HTC Evo, "What pushes the Evo over the edge, though, is . . . a wireless network that can be as speedy as some wired connections. Running on Sprint's 4G network in a demo this afternoon, the Evo played high-def YouTube videos completely jutter-free--and it did so alongside the Droid, which sputtered through the clip." Financial Times was impressed as well, writing, ". . . the Evo can become a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices and, with its faster WiMax connection, this beats the hotspot available on Palm's Pre Plus and Pixi Plus, which is restricted to five devices and 3G speeds."

Currently, Sprint's 4G access is spotty in the U.S. but will be expanding quickly. For example, 4G will not be accessible in Colorado until September of 2010 and then will be limited to a wide berth of the I25 corridor, though that will include the Denver Metro area. For areas where 4G is not accessible, the HTC Evo will work with 3G capability.
