Sprout watches have recently gained more popularity with the wave of more earth conscious consumers shopping about. And, why wouldn't they? With fun watches made from eco-friendly material that is also long-lasting, these must-have accessories have turned being "green" into a fashionable hobby.
Sprout watches are lead and phthalate free and are made up of the following natural materials: corn resin, organic cotton, bamboo, mineral crystals, and recycled fibers. Corn resin has a durable shelf life and will not break down during regular wear, care, and use. However, corn resin is 99% biodegradable and since it is made from corn, it is derived from a renewable resource. Since corn resin is bio-based, it does not use any oil resources during production, unlike regular commercial plastics. Organic cotton is grown without the toxic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers used and found in most commercial cotton. It is also grown and produced with methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Bamboo is a fast growing plant and doesn't require the use of chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers in order to grow.
The lens of Sprout watches is comprised of mineral crystals, which is a type of lass made from sand. While most watch lens are made from synthetic plastic, the lens of sprout watches can be recycled. Sprout watches use mercury free batteries to operate. Mercury has been know to cause negative health effects. The packaging that is used to contain the Sprout watches is made from 80% of post consumer fibers, which can be recycled again. The smaller sized Sprout watches are 80% eco-friendly and the larger sized Sprout watches are 96% eco-friendly.
Sprout watches come in at least 20 different styles, colors, and sizes, and are sold at major retailers such as Kohl's, K-Mart, Sears, and Nordstorm, as well as mass merchandise stores such as Wal-Mart, and online on Amazon. Pricing ranges from $24.00 to $45.00 depending on size and style.
