Teaching your friends and family to sprout their own greens is both a fun and rewarding activity to get involved in. Sprouts grow fast and there are many types of sprouts that change looks noticeable everyday while growing. So the kids and the big kids can see progress almost everyday which keeps their interest.

There are quite a few sprouting kits available for very reasonable prices online and in many gardening stores. I like to buy my seeds online because they usually carry all the varieties that I am interested in. You can sprout all different kinds of seeds to add to salads and sandwiches that are very satisfying and tasty. What a great feeling to grow your own sprouts right in your kitchen at home. Having a fresh supply of sprouts in your kitchen will always give your salads and sandwiches that extra special taste. Many of us are not accustomed to fresh grown food any more, we purchase all of our food in the market. Some of the produce that we are consuming isn't really fresh and probably contains little nutritional value.

Growing sprouts to add nutrition to your diet is very economical compared to buying supplements. You can grow several types of sprouts that really add flavor and zest to your diet. There are many different blends of seeds already chosen to grow that have been proven to be good combinations for flavor and nutritionally also.

We are all aware of the rising cost of food. I believe everyone needs to become a little less dependent on the stores for their food. In some areas we have limited availability to fresh food year round, so it only makes sense to grow a little for ourselves when it so easy and economical. Oh yes, its fun also. Do not sell your self short if you tried eating sprouts and you didn't like them. You can sprout so many different seeds and use them in your daily diet. Two of my favorites are sunflower and onion seeds. I prefer to sprout sunflower seeds and use them in place of lettuce for the main component in a salad. Sunflower seeds when eaten young are tender and have almost nutty taste. Add onion sprouts, which taste like sweet onions and splash on a little lemon juice and you have a unique salad that is not only tasty but nutritious.

Sprouting kits are great inexpensive gifts for anytime of year. Most people enjoy growing them year round in their homes no matter where in the world they are living. Most sprouts are fast and only take a few days before they are ready to be eaten which makes it an easy and fun past time that adds some nutrition to your diet.
